yeah i agree with TwinTurbo...because his eclipse is an 08 and yours isn't a Type S, you will probably lose...i've heard the new eclipse is a lil quicker than previous years were normally too...it's only $20, so go for it...but when he wins, just tell him it was daddy who actually won...

35hp is a lot to make up...you might be up against some tall odds. Remember, the 3G TL comes with 258hp stock, and the Type-S comes with 286hp. That's a difference of 28hp, and you NEVER hear of base TL's comin' up on Type-S's. Just think about it!

i say dont race him.

look at this:
Engine is a 3.8 liter V6 SOHC that puts out 263 hp and 260 lb/ft of torque. 0-60 is at 5.8 sec; 1/4 mile is at 14.4 sec at 101 mph. Topspeed is at 148 miles per hour. Gas consumption: 19/27 (city/highway).

if thats the same one. You are screwed. 260 torque and 263 HP. Thats like in the g35/350z/3rd gen TL-S league.

Just dont race him and flake on him. HAhaha its better than getting humiliated by the whole school + pay for his gas. lols.

i am bout to ask him to race me on the turnpike just cause it usually straight and when there is a curve turn i just love go fast on turns so imma see what he got and see if he got the balls to keep up with me. i once raced a 03 tl-s on the turnpike and beat him in like cutting off cars but when it came to a point where there was no cars he destroyed me by like 3 car length just going straight for like 2min and i was already at 120 and he kept on going and i kept going till 130 and just stop cause it was just a waste of gas going 130 lol.

i think i can beat him. this is his first car he just got his license 3 days ago and i think it all on the driver. when i first got my license i didnt have the balls to do alot of stuff but now i do cause i gain some experience and yes that is the same specs. i am tryin to kick his ass in this race so i can have some cash in my pocket plus a full tank off gas lol.

i don't think winning $20 will put any cash in your pockets if you fill up your tank...

the eclipse puts down over 230whp for the 6MT, not sure about 5MT, I'd imagine it to be well over 200whp, which is already more than a 2nd gen TL-S. And judging from the magazine times, you don't stand a chance, unless he has no balls or goes into SS mode and short shifts.

If you still wanna race, race him from a dig (higher chance of him messing up the launch and spinning tires and not going anywhere), and end the race quick (probably 80mph?) so that he doesn't have time to catch up, or end the race at well over 120mph so that he might not have the guts to go that fast.

^ He said they're planning on doing it at a track. Last I remember there weren't any drag strips that went from a roll, haha!

He's going to die if he pushes the car that fast on the street. I swear, new drivers should NOT get new cars. Shit, I'd rather help build my son car than buy him a brand new one. Safety features? They can be added on. Having to pay full coverage on a $40K+ car for a teenager? Fuck no. He's getting a MKIII. That way he'll learn how to fix cars since they break down once every two blocks and he'll learn how to maneuver a heavy GT car through traffic. I know someone who's doing this exact thing I'm talking about except that he's got three MKIIIs and each one he rebuilt himself with his son's help.

You will lose. The 5AT Eclipse V6 is about as fast as a 3rd Gen TL 5AT with CAI. You would need I/H/E on your TL-P just to hang with him. They are torquey cars. I have seen the 6MT Eclipse GT pull on G35 6MT on youtube.

seriously not worth it i think...it is only 20$ but still 20$ out of your pocket into his..and lets not forget the fact that you will be made fun of by him...
just think of it this way...the 2nd gen tl's might be a tad slower but still have better features than an eclipse...

I wouldn't race a kid who just got his lisence he'll get carried away and crash and then you'll look like the ass for racing him.

If I were to do it go to a track, hopefully he runs through the bleach pit without realizing and really screws up his launch.

A 6MT base TL will definitely come up on a 5AT TL-S.

I think you both should use that $20 to buy the SAT prep book...Better use for the money!!!

Anyways, keep it on the track if you do decide to race him. My opinion, you will lose.

haha x2 on the SAT book.
Like the others said, I don't think you should race him but again the price isn't too high so it might be a good challenge. You were saying you were the better driver, but if you're both AT, it might not make much difference...

U Can Beat It!!!

IF HE IS AUTOMATIC ITS A GUARANTEE!!

I will give you something that will help you out! when ever you pump gas make sure you dont have to much in the tank.. For every 5 gallon of super unleaded pour in one octane booster. that should help you with about 5 hp to the wheels. thats like going from a 93 to a 95.. ITS SAFE!

^ Octane is NOT a measure of power, it's a measure of resistance to detonation allowing the motor to run more advanced timing. You should know that with your boosted cars...

The thing with a lot of Honda motors (possible with other brands too) is that even for engines that only require regular unleaded fuel, if you put in higher octane gas, they tend to produce a few more hp/whp. May be that's what DirtyJohn was referring to?

And stop doing dumb shit like this. Shows how inexperienced a driver you *really* are.

You haven't had a license long enought to talk down to "new" drivers. You're barely out of diapers yourself.

This is only my experience and a trick i learn from the guy who was dynoing my car!!

U should try it, take a stock TL with regular gas and drive it down the track and see what kind of time the car get. THen take the same TL and pump 98 which they do sell at the track and drive it down the track! man it will improve ur car by .4 or .5 of a sec! UNTUNE!! may not be safe but its not like youre doing it all the time just something i learn hehehe..

When i was dynoing my TL on Nitrous a long time ago i had 314 whp on pump gas so eddie who owns this machine shop told me to go buy 4 octane booster and pour it in the tank! (I WAS ALMOST FULL) RAN It on the dyno twice! I got 319 whp and then the last one was 318!

Speaking of high octane gas does anybody know where you can buy 110 octane gas. Some dude that was selling his Acura Integra Type R said that his car does 10 sec 1/4 mile with 110 octane gas. Obviously his car is boosted but never got a chance to ask him where I can buy 110 Octane gas. He was referring it to as "racing gas". Anybody?

I know the Phillips stations around me sell "racing gas" that is the only place that I have seen them sold. I'm in South Bend, IN, I don't know about your area though.

I doubt you'll find 110 Octane UNLEADED gas.

Maybe 100 or 104. We can get 100 at a few stations around here. It's ~$4.999 per gallon.

Race gas is works wonders on turbo cars because they can up the boost without worrying about detonating as easily.

Woodside King's 76 sells 100 at the pump for $5.29, IIRC. The the 76 on Capitol and something also had it for the same price.

No Chance. You're down like 40 HP. Remember that our TLs came out before the corrected SAE HP ratings, so you have to figure its about 10hp lower than what it came from the factory.

The new Eclipses are quick. Would be nice if they released a new how powered awd DSM like in the first generation eclipses.

woot! i ran this kid and won $20 and a full tank off gas! we raced on a main road at 3 AM in the morning. there was about 20 spectator watching. road was clear and no cars coming. went up to the red light and when it turn green i launched it and pulled on him 3 car length. second race i pulled him another 3 car length. 3 race i pulled on him another 3 car length. i would shut down at 100 and he would shut down at 75 cause he got scared. this kid is the kind of kid who cant drive because he gotta be all pretty boy and dont know shit bout cars. i know if there was a better good driver i would lose for sure and would never do the race but i knew this kid and how shitty he drive and destroyed him with a full system in my car. i was going to take out my sub but i knew my chance was high of beating him and got lazy to take out the 15inch sub woofer.
