15k service & starter
15k service & starter
2 things.
I got an oil change/tire rotation at 14k because it was due up. I haven't really been following the service schedule (usually getting oil changes ahead of schedule).
My car is almost at 17k miles now. I haven't received a 15k service due indicator. Should I just take it in for 15k service now? Is the 15k service really vital to not put off?
2nd issue: In the past week or so I've noticed that the engine struggles for about a second before turning on -- turning the crank doesn't start the engine as smoothly as it used to. Could this be a problem that the 15k service should fix, should I explicitely mention it to the dealer, or should I let it be and only mention it if it worsens?

There is no 15,000-mile service per se; unlike previous Honda and Acura vehicles, the service regimen for the 3G TL is not mileage-based. The reason it hasn't called for a service is because of your recent oil change.

Hi Redman042,
I specifically asked my dealer about breakin oil & the need for an early change. He said that Honda does not use a special oil to help breakin. He suggested that the first change should be done by around 3000 miles.
I took his advice. It could only help.
Mark - It's raining in Detroit

mark, my dealer said the exact opposite (about interval and breakin oil). I ended up changing at 3k miles and they said you could if you want to but there wasn't a need to until the mid told you so (which would've been over 6k miles most likely)
imagrantes,
have you done anything about this issue?

Regarding the first oil change, there have been a lot of threads on this. Try searching for "break-in oil change." The following are just a sampling.

doing a search, i answered the 15k question. I'm just going to wait for the mid to pop up again and tell me do to a service.
Still curious as to who else might have this starter problem, and if it was able to get fixed. I searched the problems & fixes subforum but didn't find this issue.
