12 years driving the same car...crazy ?

I just realized I had my 04 TL for 7 years...just bought a TL type S (both manual of course)--I cant see myself getting rid of this car for the next 5 years. Which means...12 years of the same damn ass car ! Before this I changed my cars every 2-3 years...but dammit there is not another car I would want under 40K.
Something about these TL's...
I really think the 04-08 TL's is this generations Acura Legend. Timeless. Classic.
I hope by 2016 they will have a nice Type S TL with slightly updated 3rd Gen on the outside and the 4G interior. Now THAT would be classic

If you like this model so much then that's great!
I personally couldn't do it.

I'll be driving mine for as long as it lasts. At the rate Im putting miles on, 12 years would be around 260k miles.

Yes I love my 04. Came close to selling for a bigger family vehicle butvso glad I decided to keep it. Defiantly I agree it's like this generations legend but with rattles and cracked dashes.

What's wrong with 12 years of the same body style? It's a GREAT body style!

I had a 3rd Gen Maxima SE for 12 years so I could hang with a TL that long possibly. The Max had those motorized seat belts that I despised yet the TL is free of annoying faults like those belts. Some people would argue that the S is a completely different vehicle in nature so 12 years between 2 vehicles is pretty respectable. People are holding onto their cars longer so you won't be alone- think of all the money you'll be saving.

Good luck!

The 04-08 TLs have the looks to last a long time. (Some say they drew from the Alfa Romeo 156..which I can definitely agree with. And ARs are for the most part have outstanding exterior designs).

I still think the E46 BMWs look great, and the design is over a decade old.

man

The Supra was one bad ass car. I sooo wanted that one. Didnt have the cash though.
I was a Type S hater for a long time, didnt think it offered much more than my base TL. But man was I wrong. Im going to eat my words on that because I think the TL-S is better in every way.

Why waste money on another car?
I only drove 9k miles in one year.....with 40k on the clock.
Yeah, she'll last a long time.

and if maintained on a regular basis, it will help minimize any repair bills that due come up (which is alot better then monthly car payments)

I really think this body style is timeless. I plan to keep mine until it falls apart. I might get another car or a lease but no plans to ever get rid of the TL. It's paid off so it's staying here.

I've driven my GN for 17 years, since I started my senior year in high school and I never get tired of it and I'll never sell it. I've gone through periods of time where it doesn't get driven for a month at a time and I'm sure the TL will one day too but I'll never sell either. It was my daily driver until I got the TL 5 years ago.

Plan on keeping my 2005 for at least another 12 years. It's paid off, fun to drive, low in upkeep costs, and it's styling looks great even today.

Had my previous car for 15 years!

A 1989 Accord SE-i Coupe - The car Based on the Original Accord Export Edition made in Ohio and shipped to Japan

Only a few hundred in this Brittany Blue Green with a 5 speed stick were made. It was the only model Accord built before the 2001 model year with both a manual transmission and steering wheel audio controls in the same car. The wheels are from the '89 Prelude 4WS. He's living a comfortable retirement in Puerto Rico used only 2 months a year.

I think it's just the fact that acura has cornered something that alot of other companies fail to do and that is give you so much for what your paying i am on my third tl . had first generation 3rd and now 4th .I have tried to move on to several different cars but when you talk cost the acura always beats the competition out the box. Def a great car. my only thing is i think they need to go back to how they took over the game with the legend and the cl .

Drove my '96 Maxima SE for 12 years to 187,000 miles. Cost very little to maintain, still sporty styling (after some mods), and reliable as anything. Wife got rear-ended while driving it and it was a total loss. Love the TL and feel the same way...can't imagine driving anything else.

Just ditched my 92 accord after 19 years at 400K. Gonna drive my new-to-me-last-year 2004 for the same amount of time. If the newer cars are indeed more reliable, then this should be a cheap and easy trip.

FWIW - the new TLs are very nice cars if you can get past the looks. I have only driven one a few hundred miles, but they drive nicer than the 3Gs in every way that I noticed. On the bright side, if Acura ever does come up with a nice body again, the car underneath should be really great.

I'm glad to hear all of that. I've driven two Accords prior to the TL and kept both for 4-5 years each, until they reached about 200K miles. By the end I was definitely ready to trade up.

But purchasing a TL @ 60K miles, I'd have to go about 10 years @ 15K a year to get to 200K. Dunno if that will happen; it's not as if I need to go to 200K. But the possibility has crossed my mind. Also, if I milked it that long, I could just pass it off to my son (who is 6 right now) as his first car. Although it will be pretty worn by then, it would probably be perfect for a first car.

But yeah, for the first time I'm at a point where I don't know what I'd purchase to replace my current vehicle if I were to trade up right now. The 4th gen TL's are a bit hideous in my opinion, the 8th gen Accords don't tickle my fancy either (and after test driving a v6 MT6 8th gen I wouldn't consider that an upgrade from a base TL, in fact, it would be a significant downgrade). I'd probably go with a V6 TSX or Type-S 3rd gen.

I was doing the same thing my last 2 vehicles before the TL was kept 2 to 3 years but I do plan on keeping this one until the doors and wheels fall off. I will just maintain the heck out of it mechanically as well as cosmetically and keep on driving

Not much out there that we like, so I guess the '04 WDP TL will be around for quite some time. Don't use it much, but great to drive once in a while.

We still have our '89 RX-7 Turbo we purchased new in March '89, just past the 22 year mark.

Which is why used 3rd gen 6MTs are selling like hotcakes (well if the price is reasonable. I've seen 2 dealers capitalizing on the demand and putting 05s for over 20k..yea right.)

One showed up on carmax earlier this week for I think 16k, an 05 with 62k miles. Gone already. And there's only 8 within a 75 mile radius of my house. Over a hundred automatics.

I'm happy i've already got one locked down

By far a very favorite body style to me.

Don't really care for manual/auto. Just a another clutch to replace... It's not like its a race car. Drove my buddies Type S, yeah the 6spd was fun. But doesn't really matter to me. I chose mine for the exterior/interior color.

Yeah, the Supra was a great car. I added a 3" stainless steel exhaust to it after the 4 winters in northern Maine rusted the old exhaust. Man, was that a rush with that exhaust. Damn, wish I had done that sooner!!

Wish I had never sold it. Bought it brand new in Sacramento in 1988 (Can you say "chick magnet"?). Stayed with me for 2 years in Sac, 4 years in Maine, 1 year in NY and then the last 10 years in Bossier City. Hadn't even thought about a new car until the 3G came out in 2003. The 3G really caught my attention. I lived in Bossier City at the time and went over to the Shreveport Acura dealer to try to make a deal. They were cads, so I blew it off.

A couple of months later, I went to home (Dallas) for Thanksgiving. The next day, Friday, I headed over to Goodson Acura and they had a WDP with chrome wheels sitting on the showroom floor. Two hours later, there was a blank space where it used to be

I kept the Supra for a couple more years. It didn't get driven all that much, but I didn't plan on selling it either. However, the USAF decided to transfer me to ND and that's when I decided to sell it. Thankfully, I found a local guy who loved Supras as much as I did. It was tough to let the Supra go, but I knew it was in good hands. Now the question is: Will the TL be with me as long? So far, it sure looks like it will!

Here's the beast:

While the older Supras are ok, the MKIV is a whole different animal. I will still own one before I die. The older ones just couldn't make respectable power without serious mods and the engines were not bulletproof like the later models. I look around from time to time hoping for a good deal but partially because of certain movies they're still expensive.

WOW the AR156 looks great. Love the rear door detail. No doubt thats where Acura got the ZDX detail from--they have a bunch of AR's hidden in a garage somewhere.
