1 Month, 2,000 Miles, and 5 Paint Chips
Man this sucks , I just finished going over my car to notice 3 paint chips out of the front bumper, 1 nick in the brushed aluminum trim at the edge of the hood, and a beautiful gash about 16 inches from the top of the hood (closest to the windshield). I'm about to be sick!:yack: I've only got a little over 2,000 miles on my TL and am not one to ride bumpers, especially on the interstate and I've still managed to collectt all these battle scars in under a month These are all down to the primer and will only be a matter of time before my $35,000 car starts showing fu*kin rust spots (on the hood at least):o
Anybody have any suggestions?

Man, I feel for you! This sucks! My '01 CL is a WONDERFUL car in every aspect except the paint. Even that LOOKS beautiful, but man, you sneeze and it chips! You stare at it - it chips! You roll over in bed with the car parked down in the garage - it chips!
I fully expect my new TL to chip like crazy too and I'm just trying to prepare myself to stay as calm as possible when it does. And use the touch-up frequently to protect from rust.
I know auto paints have to be lead-free now, and are apparently less durable as a result, but man, in 2004 can't someone invent a durable lead-free paint for cars?

I got dozens of chips now... Dealers told me it's normal for the new paint. And, asking me to slow down... Kind of disappointed. Who is driving 04TL as turtles?
If you care, you may do some bra-like protections.
TLover, thanks. It seems useful.

if you want to drive like rocket man then dont complain about damage. you can get the autosharp pen [dont know the url] and it should do a good job on the chips. I dont drive my tl like a turtle but I dont drive like an idiot either. its not a race car. this is not a criticism but you have to be realistic.

I know about the clear bra, but where I live in the "sticks" there's is nobody local that installs them
Besides, a bra wouldn't have helped this chip I have way up on the hood, I've never had a paint chip this high up before

Clear bra is the best investment you can buy for your car.
Let me know wherer in TN you are and I will see if I can find someone for you. You might have to come out of the sticks though. It makes for an easier install.

Ha, it's true... however, unfortunately, most of my chips were happened when driving between 50-60 MPH, sometimes it's hard to drive as fast as you want in this city.

If you are interested in a clear bra go to http://www.xpel.com/ and use the "find installer" tab to see if there is someone in your area that installs them.

Driving fast is what causes these chips? Seriously? Why do I find that hard to believe?
Maybe the speed of the car in front of you matters, when it causes debris to fly up onto the highway and hit your car harder.
But surely wind resistance - which is the only CONSTANT substance hitting the front of the car - doesn't cause chips, does it?
I would imagine those who drive on deserted roads don't have as many chips as those of us who drive busy highways.

I have paint chips where front quarter panel meets plastic bumper. Is this due to high speed? Or rocks? No - it's due to sh!tty paint and poor installation processes. A car shouldn't cause chips when components settle - especially on a $35k car.

does anyone know of any clear bra installers in the KC area?
Auto Glass and Tinting off of W Terrace Rd does clear bra installs. If you need the pre-cut kit let me know.
