07 TLS vs. 05 G35 Sedan

So my neighbor has a 05 G35 Sedan and I've really wanted to race him cause everytime we talk about cars, he's always saying how fast his car is. So I asked him how fast it was and he said that he has taken many TLS's. I asked him how fast it was and he said it dynoed at 300whp w/ just a Fujita Intake. Nothing else has been done on his car. He had an engine swap at 35k miles but that was it. He is also claiming 13.0 flat on the 1/4 mile. Now I'm not expert but I don't think a G35 sedan is faster than any of the SRT-8's that post 13.2 on the 1/4 mile. I currently have just an Injen Intake on my TLS. You think I should do it anyway to see how we go?

Should be a good race. I've lost to 2/3, but one was modded to hell and the other was stock(I think) It's probably because I need more practice launching the TL.

The TL-S is quicker as well, and with a good driver should be able to take on the G. Also, 300whp with an intake?

no way his car push 300whp with just an intake. From what I've learned on the board recently was that a CAI on a G35 sucks HP away. If he's got a 6MT then I bet you he'll take you if don't have a 6MT yourself. Then it's a completely drivers race.

i really don't believe him about the 300whp w/ just an intake or the 13.0 secs 1/4 mile but on his automatic 05 sedan, i'm pretty sure i could take him. I've taken G coupes that were automatic so I don't think a sedan should be a problem. Just what he said didn't make any sense to me.

OH and he has a short ram intake.

The guy gloating about his G35 Auto really doesn't seem to know much about his car. His car won't break into the 13's period! If he had a 6spd with intake then maybe a 13.9 but not a auto. Performance wise he is close with your TL-S and I would say a drivers race if your a auto as well. RWD is his advantage but I still think your car would be slightly faster. His G35 sedan might weigh slightly less than you. The coupe is the heavier of the two.

loose the spare tire, add some seafoam to the gas tank, and make sure you race with about 1/2 or less tank of gas. Also take a shit before the race and piss too. Make sure the car is warmed up well and so are the tires. Be sure to race ONLY at the track, don't be dumb and endanger others.

CAI on a G35/Z = 8-10whp less

2005 G35 5AT sedan makes ~225whp stock. With his intake, he's seeing less than that.

2005 G35 owner = idiot. The car is good for low 14s stock, but from the sounds of this guy, he'd be lucky to get into the 14s.

Do it...I've taken a brand new '07 G35S sedan already. That was with the VSA on. Make sure you turn the VSA off to give you the most power.

CAIs - the kind that have long metal tubes with a filter tucked in a fenderwell, etc.

The POP-style intake like those from JWT and Stillen show maybe a 2 to 3whp gain along certain portions of the powerband plus they suck in a crazy amount of engine heat at speeds below 30mph. Basically intakes aren't worth it on the G/Zs. The intake setup is pretty amazing for stock. It's the same kind of setup used by Benz and BMW.

Bullshit 300 hp my ass.. He prob is mistaking 300 hp for crank... He prob read 296 HP or something and thought his CAI gives 4 and gives him 300 hp and assumed it was WHP..

I know that is a bit far fetched but he could be an idiot.. Kill him..

Well i know my friend has a 350z with a SRI. We raced before he installed and after against my BMW and it was defi showing more power on the high end. BMW stock setup intake isn't that great.

Would that mean that my '04 TL with the (eh hehm) 270 horsepower stock, with a K&N CAI that can give up to 24 extra HP (must be true... read it on the inner-net)... is pushing 294?

Sweet

I outta put on some chrome door edge trim (on the doors, hood, trunk, and anything else that has an edge), and a racing stripe. Those mods alone should give me another 8-10.

Does removing silencers on the G really help out that much? Your friend must be running mid to low 13's then considering the IS350 run an average of 13.5's.

That's the quickest 07 G I've heard of. An acquaintance of mine here in KC has the quickest verified 07 G35 on g35driver.com. He's run 13.8s@102mph with the mufflers removed.

No heavier than the TL. My 2003 G35 sedan weighs around 3,350lb which is quite a bit lighter than the TL and the 07+ sedans weigh 3,550lbs. Aren't TLs and TLS' in the 3,500-3,600lb range?

there is a guy I know on .com that ran a 14.1@101MPH in his 07 G35 6spd with a 2.2 60ft time. I am sure he can improve on that!

Some dude at Etown this past Summer posted fairly consistent 14-flats with his 07 G35X.....which VERY MUCH impressed me given that it should be the slowest version of the G lineup (AT + AWD).

Back on topic, the dude in question seems a bit off his rocker.

I went and looked up many curb weights for the 2002-2003 TL-S and found 3475-3495lbs. Your car is still lighter than a 3rd gen TL Auto. I still believe that the 2nd gen TL-S is slightly quicker than a 3rd gen TL auto. Is that what most of you have found?

From a racing perspective (with my old 02 Maxima 4AT running against both), I would say YES! I found the 02-03 TL-S to be more of a challenge to my Maxima than the 04-07 TL 5AT.

Ready to flame me?
My friend has a 335i w/ 5000 miles on it. From a stop, he kills me (RWD). From a 25~30 mph roll, I leave, and he never catches up. Not ditching him, but he aint catching me. More like I'm SLOWLY pulling further and further away. Faster we got, the further I pulled. We went over and over again on a cold night, and this was the result every time.
My advice for you is to tell him that you think he will kill you, but to give you a shot where you can get some traction. But then again, my tl will smoke your tl-s.

Flame on, kids!

wow. lol isnt that just awesome? IMO, there is no way a TL can keep up with a 335 with simple bolts on a TL. Unless your heavily modded with like a SC and nitrous then ya.. probably. Are you automatic or manual? where you from? socal? I wouldn't mind racing you. I am bone stock. Won't be getting my chip until a month or 2. i got a video of me racing my friends 350z 6mt exhaust + intake. 0-100, gave him jump and beat him by 10+ car lengthes. then we did a 20 roll gave him jump again beat him by another 10+ car lengthes.

Where in cali are you?. If you believe your car is so bad-ass, you wont mind letting us take it up to about 30-35mph before the honks, would you? This way I can defeat the benefit of your rwd launch. Well go a bunch, but unless your car is factory freak, these are the conditions that you'll get beat under. From a launch, we both know what will happen. PM-

Flame on, people!
