'07 TL vs '04 4Runner V8?
Hello Acurazine, this is a completely random and off topic so if i'm not supposed to be posting this I am sorry (have mercy mods im newish) but my friend has an 04 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition V8 and he does nothing but brag about it! its getting really irritating and he claims he would smoke me in a race against my 07 base TL which i felt was pretty quick. Now I would never want to race him because that would be stupid but I just want a second opinion would my car have a chance? Could it in theory keep up or beat his 4runner?
Thanks for any answers!

Your friend is a idiot.
TL weights 3600 lbs and makes 258HP @ the crank stock
4Runner weights 4200 lbs and makes 235 HP @ the crank stock.
The 23hp @ the crank difference between the two is minimal and means absolutely nothing however the 4Runner weights 600 lbs more.
Take two toyota prius and line them up. Add 600 lbs worth of junk to one of the Prius and leave the other one stock. Which one do you think is going to win?
Yeah the 4Runner makes almost 100 ft/lbs of torque more than the TL which will definitely help it off the line, but once you get up to 60+ mph horsepower and weight is what helps win races.
Some people drive cars that make a lot of low-end torque and think the touchy throttle at low speeds means the car is super fast.

That 4Runner is probably an upper 15, lower 16 second vehicle on its best day.

This is a funny thread. Ill preface this by saying I don't think either of these vehicles are 'fast'... A buddy of mine flips used cars for a living (this was last summer) and he happen to have an 04 4 runner with the V8. I don't remember what trim it was, im not well versed in Toyotas. But we were bored one night and I raced my bone stock 08 base TL against the 4 runner. It was on a straight away prob 1/2 mile long or so. We started from completely stopped, I used manual mode and by the time I was in 3rd gear I was prob 3 car lengths ahead of him. Neither of us are good drivers tho, but I could still tell it wasn't much of a race.
