07 TL-S Rust spots ALREADY!!!???

Okay so this car was orginaly a Florida car, and was recently brought to wisconsin about 6/08. When i bought the car the exterior looked great like they just got done waxing it... No buff or swirl marks. Shortly after i noticed these rust spots, so i took mild rubbing compound and rubbed them out by hand, then waxed over it, they come out fine. I also hand waxed the car before winter. And just recently hand washed it (today) But hand washing the car wont take them out.

The dealer said something about the car being a liquid based paint because of new regulations, or some shit??? Does that have anything to do with it? Why is this showing up? Should this be covered under warrant???

I dont know why these are showing up like this but it happens in random different places even on the plastic bumper. Here are two pictures of it. One is from drivers side door on top of lip right next to the window (the flat part) the other one is on Bumper (on flat part)

Any help it greatly appricated. Thanks

Btw i hope i put this in the right forum thread.

that is surface rust and it's common with all cars today. New cars are transported by trains, and when the train wheels contact the rails, minute shavings of metal come off (called rail dust) and it sticks to the paint. Over time it oxidizes causing those.

Removal is pretty simple, you will need to clay the vehicle. Claying is relatively simple and you can't mess it up.

Check the wash and wax section on claying your car, what products to use, etc.

that's the thing, rail dust is very stubborn, the clay will work it away and also a bunch of other surface contamination. If you want to see that it's rail dust and not the metal on the body rusting, go to a local detailing shop and ask them if they can clay just that one area so you can see if it's contaiminated or if it's rusting underneath. Tell them if it's contamination that you might get it detailed there. Get their rates and stuff and keep it for future reference incase you ever need it.

Ever in an accident as the imperfections look like they are under the paint surface?

Clay your car and be done with it. I always clay my car as soon as I can after getting it home from the dealership. Not only will it help with those rust spots but it should also get anything else that may be on the paints surface. Do read, read and read some more in the Wash and Wax section. Some great information in there to help you keep your ride looking in tip top shape. Also post up questions in there if you have any. There are some detailers that hang in that section that are more than happy to help. Clay is very easy to use and will help to make your paint stand out. Good luck.

It HAS to be surface rust...it's on your PLASTIC bumper.
Good luck with that...I have a black car, I should probably clay it at some point.

I have a 08 TL that was rail shipped to Florida then back to the DC area where I purchased it. The paint finish was not smooth to touch so I clayed the car the day after I brought it home from the dealer. I must have missed a spot on the bumper and rust marks would bloom there until I carefully re-clayed the area. The marks have not returned since.

That's what I'm talkin about! I did the same thing after I got my baby. Just keep an eye on it to see if the rust comes back and re-clay.
