06 TL vs 03 Type S engine hp?

I know all about the re-rating of the hp for the 06 TL. And I'm assuming the 04-06 TL engines are basically identical. My question is what did Acura do to the engine in 04 (270hp) to increase the hp from the 03 Type S (260hp)? I have a friend with a Type S who's giving me grief that he "now" has more power than me. It's just bar-room talk but it's an aggravation. Were there mechanical differences or were then engines the same? I need ammo for the verbal battle. Thanks.

I traded in my 03 TL-S for 04 TL almost three years ago. The 04 definitely has more Oomp!

Your friend needs to get a life and stop comparing penis sizes. He sounds insecure to me.

I had an '03TLS and now have a '06 TL. To me, the TLS had more pep at the starting block but the '06 is overall far superior in all other respects!

What about a 04 TL 5AT vs 03 TL-S with Icebox and comptech headers?

Bar talk is fun... and you still win.

Your friends 2003 TL-S has not been evaluated against the new SAE standard, plain an simple.

His comparison is flawed...

I think chrisphoto wants to know what gave the same engine 10 HP increase over the 2G TL...

And I think it's mostly from the welded-on headers and better intake.

And I think they installed a freer-flowing exhaust.

the 2G TL HP would probably go down.

Who cares, anyway, both cars are great.

Thanks ndx2. That's the ammo I needed. And the previous poster was correct in that the previous S-type was measured with a different ruler.

The compression ratio was also changed from 10.5 to 11.0 in the 3G. I would think that that the intake and exhaust would account for the 10 HP difference so inceasing the compression ratio must be offset by other things. Since the 3G car is ULEV2 instead of LEV (I believe) for the 2G it's tunened better and/or leaner. The non vtech cam profile and the fuel mappings are probably the the way it made ULEV2 certification.

My '01 CLS seemed to have a little more lower end torque than my '05 TL. It's hard to compair since the CLS was a 5AT and the TL is a 6MT. I bet the lean burning of the 3G has a lot to do with it.

You are going to 5 year newer technology of the same car. It is a good decision. Most that have made the change are very happy. Don't worry, get a great deal on your 2006 and move on.

I'm very happy with my '05 TL. It has lots of things the '01 CLS doesn't have. I got the Navigation in the TL but did not have it in the CL. It's great!

The reason I got rid of the CLS was tranny failure. After having the tranny inspection and oil jet installed the transmission failed shortly afterward with only 25,000 miles on it. It was replaced under warranty but was not the same as the original tranny. It shifted slower and softer, lacking some of the performance it once had. The car was out of warranty except for the extended transmission warranty so it was time to trade it in before I had to start paying for the repairs.

The TL with the A-Spec suspension and Comptech rear swaybar handles much better than the CLS. Without them the handling was probably similar but the ride was mildly floaty and would nose dive a little while braking. The suspension and RSB took care of those problems but now rides firmer than the CLS. Not bad but firmer.

The TL gets better gas mileage than the CLS. I averaged 22-23MPG in the CLS with my normal driving. In the TL with the same driving I get 24-25MPG. And if I baby it 26-27. The TL now has with about 7,500 miles on it so the mileage probably will not improve much more if any. I haven't had it on any long trips yet so I don't know those number but would expect 30-32. The CLS would get 30-31 at 70MPH. The final drive ratio is lower in the manual TL than the auto CLS (and TL) but the engine seems to be more gas efficient so I would expect about the same long distance mileage number.

You will not make a mistake going to the TL.

its me again, i do not miss my 03 TL-s at all, tranny was gettin sloppy, #2, and it never did shift the same when they replaced it at 19,000 miles,
i just got my 06 6mt, i reccommend everyone trade their gen 2

best move i ever made, its like a completely differnt car, hands down

gas isnt too bad either considering ive done some highway passes to see what shes got, still at 330 to my FIRST tank

god i love this car
