06 tl cooling off

i took the advice to remove my engine compartment panels and i love the results. the pipe to my long ram K&N intake is barely warm when i stop the engine after a long ride, i definitely feel like i am getting more airflow and ventilation, i recommend this to others.

you can wrap Reflectex around the cai pipe to insulate it-
a few dollars of material, available at hardware-home improvement type stores makes a differance in overall results

Yeah but don't you feel naked without them? lol.. I actually have mine off to be painted. You can also remove the channel cowl below the wipers to further increase airflow.. Here's InAcc's DIY below.. Welcome btw.. where in HI are you located?

Removing the cowl is a great idea ... makes it way easier for twigs, rodents and leaves etc to get into your fan and other moving parts..

The cowl doesn't prevent any of those things from happening.. if anything the removal would prevent rodents from nesting underneath it. While the benefits are debatable, (which should be done in the UCM thread) the probability of debris entering and causing damage is very low.

I dunno a lil extreme for hardly any extra power? And rodents don't look at your car the way you do. They can easily hop in if they want to. Under the car, through a wheel well......Anywhere.

I imagine our engine bays are like the ritz carlton to them and our wire harnesses are a filet mignon dinner.. I don't envy the techs who work under our cars having all types of rat shit and crap get on them..

And I thought the thread about removing the spare tire for better handling was funny.
Man, I can only imagine how the car would perform if you removed both the spare tire AND a couple plastic panels under the hood. LOLOL

Dude, removing the plastic panels does nothing for you or your car. Just leave them in place. Looks a lot better to.

No one has ever doubted the benefits of the UCM. It works is spades! The thing that folks do debate is if the compromises are worth the benefits for their needs. I need to bet Corvettes (base auto C5) even if the weather is 100 degrees. Those are my needs and the UCM delivers the promised benefits.

Inacc were you drinking last night? lol... Removing all the engine covers including the manifold cover and the cowl will definitely keep things under the hood much cooler. I meant that the trade-off of the UCM is debatable. Carry-on..

I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't take stuff. My only addiction is getting adrenaline rushes, which my car supplies me with very much.

And, it all started by me removing that "boat anchor" on the front bumper many years ago. I noticed a slight improvement in the way the car felt taking turns around corners. From that humble beginning, the TL Diet was born.

Yes, it bugged me last night when someone choose to laugh at something that they never tried, would never try, and would not even be open minded enough to believe might be possible.

It is one thing to share one's opposing opinion. However, it is very rude to laugh at someone when they are sharing their point of view... especially when that person that is being laughed at has firsthand experience and the one laughing does not. As a person gets older, they learn not to be so close-minded because as years pass we often find ourselves on the "other side of the fence".

I aint laughing.. btw.. how in the heck did the '04 Thunderhill Acura TL team shave more than 100 lbs more than you?

A large diameter exhaust, a lightweight flywheel and a performance clutch were provided by Comptech USA. The suspension was modified with custom H&R coil-overs, a Progress adjustable rear sway bar and adjustable SPC camber ball joints and links. Lightweight Enkei racing wheels and Toyo RA-1 race compound tires were used for increased grip. Based on the results of windtunnel testing, an Acura A-SPEC aero kit was applied to lower the coefficient of drag, and a rear wing was added for increased high speed down force. These modifications plus the removal of luxury
and convenience features reduced the TL's weight to 2797 pounds (without driver), a 675 pound reduction from the stock TL.
I'm guessing the H&R springs helped but I can't imagine a 100 lbs on those alone though, maybe they only have one seat installed, and it looks like they might have removed the glass & regulators from the front doors.. keep us posted on your progress! Good thing the temps out here are dropping.. we hit 70 days of 100+ weather out here..

I highly recommend these additional deletions.

Remove the rubber weather strip running along back of hood near the bottom of windshield.

Remove these two panels from under the car. In first pic below, the two panels are highlighted in yellow. In the second pic below, the two panels are outlined in red.

I took the liberty of moving your question to the TL Diet thread. Hope you don't mind. Please see the TL Diet thread for the reply. Thanks Majofo.
