06 TL 5AT vs 99 GS400

Well last night me and a couple friends went out , one of my friends had his dads 1999 Lexus GS400 (stock), I was in my stock 06 TL which is 5AT, on the way home there wasn't hardly any traffic and we decided to run them, he was with his GF, so I called her and she had me on her speaker phone and I was using my hands free system so we used that to take off at the same time. we started about 60 mph, we both took off at the same time, I was in second gear @5000rpms or so and hit rev limtier going to 3rd for a tenth of a second, I pulled a tad bit the whole time, I let off around 100mph, I beat him by a car or so. we tried about 4 other times and the results where the same.

I was thinking he'd beat me because he has 42 more hp and 77 more TQ than me but the car is 113 lbs heavier than my car and FWD doesn't lose as much power to the wheels. Im pretty sure from a dead stop he'd take me, the GS400 does 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. I think the car just needs a tune up, he says the car has about 130,000 miles on it.

Well thats my story.

next time slow to a roll before you run him, that would be more interesting.

0-60 in 5.4? no way, maybe 5.9 or 6.0 at best. they are still pretty fast though.

Yea man i don't know how much different the engine was in the 1999 but the 1998 was frickin FAST. . . I highly doubt u could have beat him, unless maybe one of his cylinders were not firing then maybe ya? You sure it wasn't a 300?

read my first post again in this thread.

1999 and 1998 have the same engines and they weight the same. only differnace is the 1999 model goes unchanged except for the addition of daytime running lights and standard floor mats.

good run i dont kno what u guys are so shocked about didnt he say it had 130k miles on it 1999? and if im correct its a RWD car right? <---------------that equals alot of horsepower gone over the years specially at the high milage and a RWD. but again im not 100% sure if it is RWD but if its not u still have to take the 130k milage into accnt.

Yeah they are RWD, and 130Kmi, will definitely do a number to a car's performance.

Look man, my buddies father has one of those Taurus SHO's 1991(0-60 in 6.6 seconds). . .150 000 miles and he does bare minimum maintenance. . .He was tellin me he hasn't changed his plugs for 50 000 miles, all he does is normal oil change and tranny flush and he had to change the timing belt cause it went but other than that nothing else... and he ran against my 5AT 06 TL and i barely took him out (before i had the CAI) from 40 we went and i only started to pull at about 85 miles.

I know lexus makes reliable vehicles but all cars require regular maintenance and i'm sure if he still is runnin that car, with that much mileage, he takes care of it. I don't doubt your story but something probably is really wrong with his car if it can't even match you from 60.

Like you said, maybe with a tune up or a compression test he'll find out what's wrong with it...

Good run tho. . .

I can't really tell the differnace between the GS300 and GS400 besides the way they sound and emblems. The GS430 is the newer model. The Number After GS is how many liters the engine is. So the GS430 is a 4.3 Liter V8, the 430 is the new/current body style

I bet you if you would have ram him from 60+ mph, you would have beaten him by more. The GS400 is a little faster but from a roll it but that changes everything.
