Oil/filter change, air filter, and tranny fluid change. That's all I did. I think thats sufficient. Doesn't cost you much when you do it yourself either.

BRAKE FLUID must be changed as well, per owner's manual.

Brake fluid is a 3-year service item. I would wait till next year to do it on an 05 unless you think you have a mushy pedal or you know you've faded the brakes before (possibly boiled the fluid)...

6MT info: I would change the trans fluid at this point. OEM Honda MTF is a dyno oil and shears down after about 20-30k miles. If your transmission shifts fine and you don't have the notchy 3rd gear problem, I recommend you just get new Acura/Honda MTF. If you do have the notchy 3rd gear problem, go with GM's Synchromesh "Friction Modified" fluid. This should get rid of that. This is also a dyno fluid so change at the same interval as Honda MTF...

5AT info: I would change the trans fluid at this point. Just get new Honda ATF...

Also get a new engine air-filter, and cabin pollen-filter...

Is it really necessary to replace the transmission fluid at 30k miles.

I know for sure it is if you have a manual transmission. I'm not so sure about the Automatic...

There isn't a "new" Honda ATF, I meant to just replace the ATF with new stuff from Honda...

Probably not, but I think of it as cheap insurance. Especially with all the V6 tranny problems honda's had. I think they've got them figured out now. Not that changing the fluid more often prevented failure on the 2nd Gen TLs.

IS changing the transmission fluid the same as flushing it.

Flushing (automatic only) implies the use of some sort of detergent pushed through to clean the transmission system. Honda recommends against this as it will inevitably leave behind some detergent that can/will ruin the new fluid you put in afterward...

It is, however, common practice on automatics to do a drain & fill 3 times in a row while driving several miles between each drain to get as much old fluid out as you can. The reason being that when you drain an auto trans, less than half of the old fluid comes out (due to all the mechanics retaining fluid).

At the 30k service honda and acura recommends, replacement of the oil, trans fluid, cooland, brake fluid, engine air filter, rotate and balance of the tires. The 30k service is also pretty costly!

*The factory fill type-2 Coolant lasts 90k miles before it needs to be replaced.
*Brake fluid should be changed ever 3 years and has nothing to do with vehicle mileage.

If your local H or A service department recommends anything besides what's clearly laid out in the owners manual, they are just trying to rip you off...

I just called 2 different Acura dealers and asked for the transmission fluid change. South Coast Acura charge $199.95 and Tustin Acura charge $79.95.

I know this, but this is just what is covered in the big 30k service if wanted!
