04 TL AT vs Various Kills

I have an 04 Acura TL AT and I have some various stories...most kills some fun.

There's one road about 2 miles away from my house that I take too and from work it's supposed to be a closed off sector of the township because its a wildlife reservation but people sometimes use it to cross the township. No cops even put it on their radar so its pretty safe. There is 0 residential and pretty much trees so its where I do my joyrides. Its a twisty road so it has some kick too it not just straight really allows to get the TL a bit sideways But every now and then someone will tail me and its obvious they want to play a bit so I signal to the closed off road and its on

So now a few stories (this will likely be longer than I like)

First adventure was a Lexus (couldnt tell exactly what type) it was a coupe guy was a bit guido and riding my bumper at 70mph and I decided to take the closed off road and he followed ....The part you are going to find out about me is i know this road very well and I take big risks on it most people arn't as crazy as I am around a 30mph turn. But as soon as we hit the turn it was on he slammed on the gas and attempted to get along side...at around 80mph he noticed the turn backed off a bit got behind me again and slowed down to about 60 i maintained 80 thru the turn and came out doing about 85mph from there FWD pull he just lost cars he couldnt get back up to my speed at about 130mph i let off and he was over 20 cars behind me. Lexus down.

Cruise #2 we hit the road before the closed road and i was behind a Porsche at the stop light we both got lucky and got open road and we booked it both cruising at 80mph me behind him...i early signaled a right onto the closed road and he looked back and did the same...this car was QUICK! both hit the turn at 90mph and proceeded up to about 110mph before he saw the 30mph turn. I again slowed down to 80mph him about 70mph and took him on the inside came out of the turn with my front end a bit infront of his and again from there FWD does its magic I pulled and up to 142mph he kept on my back quarter panel (fastest I've ever gone on that road and ever in my TL) and he never let go of being right on me. Crazy props to this guy for having a lot of balls But you still lost to the pull the TL has at those speeds

Cruise #3 same kind of scenerio as the Porsche but this time it was a SPORTS BIKE (couldnt see the type) the bike was behind me and on my bumper the entire time i was practically only seeing his helmet in the rear view he was hugging me so close. Signaled the right turn onto the road and he followed and this guy meant business got on my side almost immediately and didn't leave my side. He went into the turn at 80mph as did my car and came out even at about 120mph he started falling back to my back quarter panel and i went on too about 132mph before he realize it was over and got back behind me...gave him the thumbs up before he turned. Craziness. But thats 3 of my favorite kills. Wish I had a MT love to see the difference.

Some fun stories...theres a guy with a modded 2006 Civic Si that lives off the road that connects to the closed road and we used to cruise it all the time. He's more insane than me but Civics ride on rails so hes taking turns at like 90mph. I've never lost to him and him never too me we even out 99% of the time but he'll do something crazy like pass 4 cars on a two lane road too pull ahead...cut through parking lots etc. Always interesting runs with him through the twisties.

There are 2 Evos also in this area but i've never been out and about when they are wish i could get one of them on the road and find out how they fair off a roll.

Well theres a few stories for you.

That is all shes bone stock.

My new venture will be the project car. I found and 07 NHBP TL-S MT a guy has here that hes selling due to financial troubles it has 15,200 miles on it but he says someone else is already in works for it but the guy is not coming up with the money. So in a week if its a no go for the guy i am next in line

It's a little hard to believe the TL would take a sport bike and a Porsche on the top end. Through corners I could believe it because drivers make such a difference. I'm packing just over 600hp in my other car and the only bikes I consistantly beat are the 600cc-750cc bikes and I don't pull them that bad. They were probably afraid to pass you for fear of getting run over further down the road.

Thats kind of the beauty of the AT thru the turn...i don't have to shift or ever let off the gas. Coming off the turn i'm still fully on the pedal fwd from there just does its magic.

The Sports bike was a surprise too me too I figure he'd of left me through the turn but somehow i came out where we both left off. I don't think it was a major sports bike nothing like a busa or anything but it wasn't a chopper. I think it was a Yamaha/Kawasaki.

That's all. To be honest in a sense I'm not too surprised. I'm a bit crazy...you have to kind of put yourself in the other peoples shoes I always doubt myself too.

For instance I'm in a lexus...its a 60,000 dollar car...are you going to match some crazy persons 80mph into a 30mph turn...prob not. I get where certain people back off.

Same with the porsche...50/60,000 dollars how crazy are you going to be? Though i give this guy props he was quite the go getter.

Sports bike I guess he could of pulled off at 115mph because one he was in the oncoming lane and two he was going 115mph on a bike. Anything happens its all over.

I'm less careful with my life so to speak live or die i just love going fast

I think the other drivers gave up when they saw you going commando for the corner

I've had my car up to 140~ and let me tell you... these cars do not pull for shit after about 110-120. There is no way that you pulled on a bike if he was actually getting on it.

I guess with that being said, I can't say that I've ever had another car past 100 or so, let alone 140. Maybe other cars putz out at about the same speed. How long is this closed road your talking about? Seems kind of ignorant to be running those kinds of speeds on a two lane road (assuming, since the other drivers were going in the head on lane).

Props to you at least for haing a good time, but just make sure you're not posting a thread about putting your car into a ditch because you hit a sandy patch or some leaves.

If I am bored enough this weekend i'll take my camera with me and do some runs on it. Show you how the turns work and such.

Its not very long at all first part is flat small turns then goes into the 30mph turn (hard turn) followed by a semi small turn then dead straight (but up a small incline).

Its an enjoyable little piece of road. And i don't know my cars always pulled really hard from 80-120ish. From there its just holding the pedal down till you get too scared to go any farther :P

And none of this was done in sportshift...just AT trans doing its thing.

You wrote that the TL does NOT pull after 100?? LOL

Try actually staying in VTEC. =)
no rudeness implied, BUT

try keeping ur car in 4th gear until 6700rpm........

I have good pull to 125 then not so much... lol

hoping a sc will correct this or I will need 100 shot.

Yeah I never leave vtec since I don't have to shift my foot never really leaves the pedal so i maintain the state. But like you said around 120ish the car pull is much slower you just hold down and pray you survive

videos! could you please describe this 30mph turn? is it an exit or just a slight/hard turn to a straight? i can normally take the 25mph EXITS (the ones that almost make a full 360) at around 58-60mph before my VDC kicks in due to slippage.

as far as a bike if it was a 250cc i can somewhat believe it. those bikes are slow although ive never actually raced one a friend with a stock 335xi destroyed what had to have been a 250cc bike.

anyways post up some vids and you my friend are a crazy driver =) lol

Crucifer,

As someone that can appreciate other performance than just HP, you should REALLY consider some of my TL Diet mods. The TL Diet had the biggest impacts in regards to handling and braking.

My car's capabilties have actually surpassed my balls. That is, in the earlier days of my TL Diet, I would gauge the improvements by how fast I could take certain curves along my daily drive. But, now at this stage in my TL Diet, I don't have the balls to push the car to anywhere near it's limits. The handling has improved that much !

WOW!! I read your story and think to myself you have got to be joking. So if I understand your story you have gotten a lexus, porsche and a bullet bike to race you on a closed road. Some thoughts.

- "a bit sideways"...do you have a drift TL
- all 3 other drivers had to have known the road.. who goes down a closed road racing with out knowledge. And drive in the wrong lane.
- FWD magic in the turns... (you mean understeer)
- FWD pull (come on bro if FWD was superior for performance don't you think you would see at least one sports car with FWD.
- top end of a tl vs a bike and porsche. ... I can hang with some bikes in my evo and my car goes from 90 to 130 in about 5 seconds. Go time your TL from 90 to 130 and get back to me.

Sorry for the crap but that is what I felt I just read. I call bs on all three.
Please don't hurt somebody else when your racing. Sounds like your Civic buddy has no regard for life racing through parking lots and passing 4 cars on a two lane (you made it sound risky). You need to go to th track and not "take big risks" ever in a car not even at the track.

say when, I think you over-reacted a little bit..

For your 1st, 3rd points, yes, you can indeed induce oversteer in the 3G TL without using the handbrake. There's a video with Tsuchiya behind the wheel of a TL-S on Willow Springs and for the first couple of turns the car has shown some rather massive oversteer for a FWD car. On youtube, I have seen a guy driving a TL in an autoX event and it oversteered big time in one of the turns. So yes, oversteering in the TL, though rare, is possible.

For your 4th point, it really depends on what your definition of "sports car." If you consider exotics, or 300hp+ cars as sports cars, then I agree, FWD isn't the best. For me, I'd consider the different Type R cars as sports cars. The FD2 CTR is especially amazing on a track, as it can keep up with NSX, R34 GTR, EVO, and STi, etc. Again, let me stress that, for race cars, of course RWD is better, that's why F1 cars are RWD. But for stock, street-legal cars, FWD can be made to go pretty fast too.

For your 5th point, I think Crucifer mentioned somewhere that the driver of the porsche and the rider of the bike were scared and didn't want to go too fast. He knows that those cars are faster than his TL.

I agree though, it's quite dangerous to drive that fast on public roads, but we are not his parents.

Damn, what do you have done to your Evo? The only stock production car that's capable of 90-130 in 5 seconds or better is a Veyron. Even F430's, C6 Zo6's, Ford GT's etc. are going to be in the low 6 second range.

It would have to be a 10 second EVO. Going off of a bad memory, mine used to pick up 11-14mph per second at that mph range according to the data logs when it ran 10s.

Iforyou - I agree with your statements except where the drivers of the porsche and bike got scared. They were on a closed road racing a TL. come on.

Sorry about the evo exageration. My thoughts.

My time slip from 2 weeks ago.
60' - 1.697
330 - 4.949
1/8 - 7.538 @ 97.6
1000 - 9.749
1/4 - 11.605 @ 123.72

I don't really know what my 90-130 time is but my 97 to 123 (which is actually higher as the trap is the average speed between to points at the end of the track is 4.1 seconds. Sorry my 90-130 time is probably closer to 7 seconds. That is with the spare and jack removed.

My evo has
all the bolt ons with cams, head studs, bigger injectors, meth, exedy twin, and a FP green XI turbo.
dynojet 407/418 at 33 pump gas with meth injection.

My evo has
all the bolt ons with cams, head studs, bigger injectors, meth, exedy twin, and a FP green XI turbo.
dynojet 407/418 at 33 pump gas with meth injection.
Nice setup! It would be one heck of a race if we met up on the street. My drag radial times are within .2 seconds of your times. Got to love that AWD in a street car.

By a bit sideways I don't mean drifting just the general displacement of the rear gets slightly loose.
- all 3 other drivers had to have known the road.. who goes down a closed road racing with out knowledge. And drive in the wrong lane.
I don't know maybe. I've never seen any of them since.
- FWD magic in the turns... (you mean understeer)
Never said FWD in turns was magic...
- FWD pull (come on bro if FWD was superior for performance don't you think you would see at least one sports car with FWD.
From a roll almost any FWD car will pull better than from the dig. Coming off the turn the car will be pulling better than the rwd. And civics are known for their AutoX rail riding abilities...so I'm not sure what you mean by performance.

- top end of a tl vs a bike and porsche. ... I can hang with some bikes in my evo and my car goes from 90 to 130 in about 5 seconds. Go time your TL from 90 to 130 and get back to me.

The Bike again I was surprised about...and again not sure what type of bike it was.

Answers in bold.

I hate cars - Thanks. I think you would take me on the street unless it is from a straight dig then I might have a chance (AWD). I launch at the track at about 7k with a quick slip/dump technique with the tires at 23psi. My best 60' is 1.61. Gotta love the awd.

Crucifer - Sorry for the all the misunderstanding. Be careful with letting the back get loose on your car as the suspension is most likely in a transition and could make it difficult to maintain control.

As for the other drivers.... I just thought somebody that is driving a porsche or bullet bike on a closed road knew why they were there. No biggie. I've moved on.

FWD pulls harder then FWD from a dig. Agreed.

Civics and other FWD can be very impressive race cars. However don't compare a near stock tl to an FWD race car. For example...comparing a near stock tsx to a Acura tsx realtime race cars. That would be like me comparing my evo to a crawford sti or ams evo time attack car. Not even close in comparison.

I've moved on be safe and sorry for the hard time.
