Whats the 1/4 and 0-60 mile times on an auto 04 max. and 04 TL

Acura 3.2 TL w/ 6 speed
Zero to 60 mph comes in just 5.7 seconds, with the quarter-mile following 8.7 seconds later at 99 mph.

As or the Maxima we tested in October 2002, requiring 6.4 seconds to achieve 60 mph (instead of 6.0) and 15 seconds flat. The last Maxima took only 14.7 seconds to do the same job.

I read the Auto TL 0 to 60 is about 7.2.

No idea about the Auto Max.

 

If auto TL goes 60 in 7.2, my 2002 TLS would kill it. I suspect it's almost a second faster than 7.2 s.

 

ii would agree that its probably closer to 6.2

 

Both Car & Driver, Road & Track reviewed/tested the 6 speed versions of 04 TL & 04 Maxima. However, the article on 04 Maxima in 5/03 issue of R&T has an interesting comparison chart: 04 Max (265 bhp @5800/255 lb-ft @ 4400) w/ 6MT did 0 - 60 in 6.5 sec while 03 TL-S (260 bhp @6100/232 lb-ft @ 3500) w/ 5AT also did 6.5 sec; 02 G35 (260 bhp @ 6000/260 lb-ft @ 4800, same as 03) w/ 5AT did 6.2 Sec! I think the 04 Max has too much torque steer, particularly w/ their 6MT, hurt their 0-60 time, eventhough it has peak torque at lower RPM than the other 2; while the G35 is a rear wheel drive, therefore has the best time. Also note that if you compare auto vs auto, 04 Max STILL has 4AT compared to 5AT in TL & G35.
I have 04TL 5AT, 03TL-S & 00 Max SE (4AT, 222 bhp), the 04TL clearly has the best acceleration, feels (didn't time them) slightly better than 03 TL-S, because the TL-S feels larger, heavier, softer.

Interesting side note: 6/03 C&D has an article on Comptech supercharged 03 CL-S w/ 6MT, has lots of other mods, 369 bhp@ 6800/302 lb-ft @ 5400, total price $53,462, 0 - 60 in 5.7 sec; about the same as 04TL 6MT! Copy avail if any one is interested, just pm me with their email addr.

 

Please let me know which issues of Car & Driver did you get these data? There's an article in 10/03 issue of C&D for 04 TL 6MT & 3/03 C&D for for 04 Max 6MT, all the measured times/speeds are slightly inferior. Copies of these articles avail if anyone is interested. Just PM me with email addr.

 

The 04 SL has the 4spd auto the SE has the 5spd auto in the Max, any auto Max 02/03 and 04 SE will give the TL a run for its money. It will be just like with the TLS you win some and lose some, and I'm sure here we will see I beat them and go over to the Max site and you will see that they beat the TL.

 

I test drove a Maxima before I bought this year. Very big inside, nice drive, but handles like a boat, and the shift timings, well, you may as well be in a manual, just without the excitement. Wouldn't advocate over the TL EXCEPT

One of these threads, some poor guy got rearended by a GMC at 45 miles per hour, and he shows pics of the passenger compartment, and it was completely in tact, and he was in good shape for such a bad accident. I wish I could remember who it was. Worth searching for.

I've been told that the auto is hitting 60 a hair over 6.0 sec flat...this is coming from one dealer as well as an article found online

 

I guess because of the slight difference from car to car, actual Horsepower/ Torque Outputs and testing conditions, 0 to 60 times can vary. I test drove an '04 Maxima with the Auto and the 6 Speed. The Auto totally sucked in my opinion. It is tooooo large and sprung way to soft for my taste. The 6 speed wasn't that bad. Still very large feeling but more fun to drive in a STRAIGHT LINE! Can you say TORQUE STEER! Much more so that in my TL and they both have similar power. Both cars really should be RWD.

 

You probably need to quit magazine racing now...A supercharged CL-S will blow the mf'ing doors off a Maxima, new TL in any form, and my TL-S...

Auto for auto, the '04 TL is technically quicker than the '04 Maxima, which happens to be slower than the last generation...

 

Does it really matter which one is faster? .. b/c the way i look at it .. the maxima is hideous .. i'd take a 16-second car over that hog.

 

I remember that thread. FYI, last month, my 03 TL-S was struck in the rear by a 98 Monte Carlo (a fairly large car) at 65 mph + while I was pulled over to the shoulder. Both car totalled, but amazingly, not only the passenger compartment was completely intact, like the Maxima, none of the contents in the trunk was damaged, including notebook computer, digital camera, CD's etc. Also, just fill-up the gas tank, thank god it did not explode! I posted a thread in 2nd gen forum with pics " 2 month old TL-S damaged, fix it?" if any one is interested on the details.

 

it's only 5.7 from 0-60, but it has better top end with 370hp~

it has 300wheel hp and i believe it takes a lot less time to go up to 140mph

i can't wait for the comtech supercharged 04 TL!!!

 

I agree, & I'm also anxiously waiting. Almost went for it for my 03 TL-S, but the car was totalled. However, I think it will be harder (takes longer) for Comptech or anyone else to come up with a Supercharger kit for the 04 TL, because first, there seems to be less available space in the engine compartment, with new covers & CAI, larger struct bar etc, They also integrated Headers & intake manifold. We'll just have to wait & see.
