Polishing The Wheels

Has anybody had this done or considered having the 17s polished. I like the look, not as dull as stock, not as bright as chrome. I know about the plastic coating being removed and would have to be maintained also. What about price?

Danno,

I thought the same thing, called one place, american wheels, they only fix and repolish wheels that were already polished.

Maybe someone else might have looked into it? Actually I had done it myself along time ago, in 1979, I had a Corvette, bought a kit for your electric drill. Little did I know there was plastic on those wheels, and burnt into the coating. Once I saw the shine coming through I kept doing it until all 4 were done, It looked fantastic!!

I think the wheels might be painted under the coating. Anybody else?

The idea is to go through the coating, silver paint, then polish the aluminum and re-clear coat the wheels (or polishing once a year will be required with Mothers or some other company mag aluminum polish).

Most wheel repair houses re-clear coat after the repair (and paint).

I'm not sure how applicable this is, but here's information on how to polish a rim on a motorcycle.

I've been reading about it, and it seems that it would be a good idea to clear-coat the rim after polishing it.

Additionally, if you live within close proximity to the ocean (i.e. Bay Area), you may encounter accelerated oxidation of the rim. Hence, it would be almost imperative that you clear-coat the rim to avoid discoloration and/or constant treatment.

**Note: This is just for reference. I don't take any responsibility for damages.

I went to go test drive one and i noticed the TL in the showroom, the rims had a shine to, it is almost like a clear cover. Then when they pulled up the one i was going to drive they just looked plastic I will have to look into it.
