03 AV6 5AT vs 10 Toyota Tundra 5.7L
My first racing post here on acurazine!
My friend just bought a 2010 Toyota Tundra 5.7L Limited Crew Cab short bed 2WD about a month ago. He got the 1st one off of the semi as it came in. Its that gun metal grey color and man does it look good. Well of course we were talking smack back and forth about whos car would beat whos. Well I looked in his owners manual for him and it said its a 1000 mile break in before any full throttle runs. Well it happened to be at 1021 miles last night when we both met at work. So naturally we were looking forward to the race.
After work at about 12am we drove towards my house out in the boonies where there is a nice 2 lane in each direction road with no traffic at this time of night. We decided to do as many runs as it took to see which ride was faster. Well the first run we did was a 25MPH roll. On 3 honks we both were off! Through 1st gear I pulled slightly and his front bumper was at my door handle, and 2nd gear his front bumper was at my back bumper until 70MPH! I knew those tundras were fast but I didn't expect to be in front. I know those are capable of mid-high 14's out of the box so I knew it would be close but not me in front! So we went 3 more times from a dig these times. Now this is where I was a little nervous thinking I would see taillights.........well not so much! All 3 times were the same. We both floored it from a dead stop. Both of us left it in Drive. Through 1st gear it was dead even up until about where I hit VTEC at 4750RPM and started to slightly pull. At the end of 1st his front bumper was at my side mirror. Through second gear I started to pull slightly again where his front bumper was at my gas tank. Third gear was a different story. I didn't pull on him! He stayed right there until about 85MPH at my gas tank door(great gearing with his 6AT). I would imagine the higher speeds we went his horrible aerodynamics would work against him but we didn't want to take it any faster(to many rogue animals to hit). It was basically a excellent drivers race! All 3 dig runs were Identical! Very consistant with the automatics I guess lol. Anyway he is getting intake and exhaust soon so we will have to run again. My mods are just Intake and Exhaust.

the 5.7L Tundra is a monster.. I'm surprised you edged him. If he starts to take you when he does some mods.. take him through some turns.. lol.

I sat in one at the 2009 NYIAS and though I'm not a pickup guy IF I had to get one it'd be the Tundra.

those are no joke, i test drove a lifted one the lot in town had and it was fast as hell, even with bigass rims and tires..but all that flooring it made the average mpg go down to 8.2
