Switch to Regular?
Switch to Regular?
Have any of you guys used premium when your car is brand new but then as it gets older, switch to using regular?
Of course people baby their new car while it's still new but what about when it gets older? Several years and over 100,000 miles later...
I used to use regular on my '92 Legend (150,000 miles) but am using premium on my TL. I used regular mainly because it was easier on the pocketbook back when I was in high school and college.

There are MANY threads regarding this issue. Answer: Don't do it!
Lower octane=lower gas mileage AND lesser performance.
It has been proven.
Do a search, you'll find it.

I didn't know people out there could be so cheap. You save at most, what, $2-3 a fillup? I honestly hope your charcoal canister takes a dump or worse and you have to shell out hundreds for repair, and be without your car for a week or two. Sometimes I wish cars were dumber so they would punish people more readily, kind of like the Darwin Award.
Also when your car sets a CEL, it means your knock sensor has detected detonation and had to pull timing. Detonation, when bad enough, is powerful enough to blow a hole in your pistons.
Especially for a high compression engine like the J32, DON'T USE LOW OCTANE FUEL!!!

the car is optimized for high octane fuel and is most efficient when such is used. with lower octane, the computer needs to adjust the timing to prevent damage to the engine. When you use lower octane fuel, your engine is constantly adjusting itself. Feel free to use whichever fuel you feel most comfortable with. The cost savings from using the lower octane might be negligable due to loss of engine efficiency though.
Well not everyone is a car enthusiast like we are here on AZ. You have tons of people who know nothing about the cars they drive. The other day I saw a soccer mom with a baby in the back seat driving a WDP TL-S! I should have asked her for a trade.
I wonder if she knew it was a Type-S or just some regular family sedan.
I brought this topic up because my mom drives a Lexus RX350 but she puts regular in it even though I insist on her using premium. To the untrained eye, there isn't a major noticeable difference. To a lot of people, gas is just gas.
