hey today morning I dropped my car for B service (second service) and they quoated me $129
:sqnteek: and I told them why they are quoating me $129, and they said we need to change oil, rotate tires, do do inspection and etc.... and i'm like
well then I told them just do oil change and rotate tires and then I quoated $78, which was still too high ($39 for oil change, and $39 for rotating tires
). Why is acura dealers ripping us off?
I dont think I'll go to acura dealer for next oil change! :sqntfawk:

I've always taken my rides to our trustworthy family-used mechanic and he always treats me right. Dude, drove 80 miles round trip one time to tow my old GTZ in college to his shop and tore down the engine only to find out it was "unrepairable" and didn't charge me a dime. That's cool shi*.

.....and plus i had complained to them about the headiner (fell 2 times, but now they fixed it again and we'll see if it falls again), 3rd brake light (which others had problem @ night when they braked, and dealer said they order the parts) and vibration above 80mph (dealer said they couldn't take the car above 80mph). those fuckers didnt give me loaner, they had 2 tsx and 2 tl parked which i had taken before but this time they didnt give it to me :fingerfawk:
I'm waiting for them to pick me up now.

ya well here they hand wash and vaccum the car too but they're too much for oil change.

Personally, I do everything I can myself, BUT...
Take a look at the dealer's labor rate (I think lots are around $80/hr), and then estimate how long it takes to change the oil plus rotate the tires, correctly. You have to include the time to go out into the lot and get the car until the time it's returned to the lot. Is 1/2 hour for the oil change and 1/2 hour for the tire change about right, if the services are combined? Remember, to do it right, they need to use a torque wrench on the lug nuts, obtain the oil change parts from their parts counter, etc. If those times are correct, there's your $78 dollars. Then add the cost they charge your for their oil, filter, and washer - $20 or more? It doesn't look to me like that's a rip off price.
Another question is "do they actually do the work correctly and carefully" but that's why I do it all myself.

I never paid more that $30 for any servicing on my 2000TL over the 3.5 years that I had it - compared with $175 for an intermediate service on my Infiniti. The 30K is gonna cost me $800! I would try another dealer if you can...

Most "jiffy lube" stores will charge you about $30 if you get a decent brand/type of motor oil. $39 isn't that bad, especially since most Acura dealers probably employ more "talent" than most quick lube places.
Now the tire rotation is another story. Are they gonna balance them too? If they are balancing them, still a bit of a rip off. If they are not balancing them, HUGE rip off. What you can do is go to a tire shop and buy a lifetime rotate and balance for that set of tires. Most likely that will cost you about $10 a tire. So this way you would spend about the same amount of money, but this $40 will last you the life of those tires. If you have one near you, I highly recommend Discount Tire. Everyone Discount Tire store that I have dealt with has been very good.

The thing to keep in mind is that by using an Acura dealer, your cars service history is automatically retained in their system and accessible by any dealer. If a major warranty claim needs to be made, Acura can give you a really hard time by making you prove that required service was performed to "their standard". VW has been pulling this type of crap with owners that maintained their own cars whenever their was a claim submitted for a blown turbo. Some of the cases have gone to the mat - meaning the owners are in the process of suing VW to get reimbursed for their repair expenses. Just something to think about when looking at a $40 vs $20 oil change.

Desi PW, most of Acura dealers don't learn the way of 04TL's MID system. Whatever your MID tells you doesn't matter to those dealers, who just run their schedule or instruction they want to do. Usually, they follow the 2nd Gen. TL's schedule/inspection list to check your car.
Ppl always argue when 04TLers should change their engine oil/filter. Or, should we follow MID to do all the maintenance stuff? But whatever your MID has told you to do, your dealers would mostly like to follow what so-called 3k, 7.5k, 15k, etc. maintenance schedule into your 04TLs... which will do more than your owner manual of 04TLs has suggested to do...
That's how they earn $$$. Always check/ask price before they service your car...

If so, that should be the new book for dealers... or the new one after Dec. I still don't know why their B service is different than our B service in the owner manual.
While going to A1 service in the beginning of Dec., I was the first one driving into my dealer for the service. They havd no maintenance book of 04TL at that time, but used 03TL's schedule and instruction of 7500 miles to service my car... :sqnteek:
BTW, why don't you get DSL or cable modem at home? Just asking...

$800
. In February I had a 80,000 mile done on my VW. $450 and I was bitching and moaning, they changed oil, tranmission fluid, brake fluid, the belt, and sparkplugs.Safety Car
129 is not a great deal but its not going to break any banks here. i normally take it to the dealer for servicing just cause i can blame them if anything goes wrong. that's the extra price you pay when taking it to the dealer. there are alternatives to dealers and i am sure you can find a much cheaper solution but you just have to be comfortable with them working on your car.

Yep, $800. When I leased the Q back in May 02, I specifically asked the sales guy what the servicing costs were, as I'd had a 99 and it was pricy then. He told me all I'd need were oil changes. Imagine my surprise when asked to pay $150 for the first service! I went through the service program with the service guy (one of the few smart ones) and he showed me what I was in for. Between that, all the problems I've had and the crappy service at the local dealers, I'm done with Infiniti.Originally Posted by Aspector Gadget

$80/hr for a grease monkey is out of line. You know they only pay the guy $10-25/hr at most.Originally Posted by Hybrid

you can say that with almost any profession that the customer gets billed by the hour. i know alot of people here are in the IT field on this board. you will see a lot of consultants billing their clients for rediculous hours. its the same anywhere you go, people are out to make a buck, you just have to be conscious of it.Originally Posted by dcarlinf1

acurazine sucks
There is a big difference between IT guys and grease monkeys though. They bill at 80 bucks/hour (which is - IMHO - completely ridiculous for someone who needs no education or experience (for oil changes)) but here's the big difference.
Almost all shops bill "by the book". There are standard times established for certain jobs. Oil change 7 tenths of an hour, replace serpentine belt 2 hours, etc. (not actual times, just guesses). If a guy is fast, he can charge out 60 hours in a 40 hour week. Also, most of the time the book numbers are inflated. This does protect you against overcharges in hours, but I've seen instances where the dealer jacks up the type of job to cover his hours.
It's a screw job. I'm pretty efficient at IT and can build a server as fast as anyone. I wish someone would pay me for 150 percent of my time!!!!! Then I could buy another TL.

Labor for a mechanic in this town runs anywhere between $60-$80 (including our boat mechanic in this). Don't know why the thing's so expensive - it IS based on a truck frame and they list a whole lotta stuff on the worksheets, but still! Especially since they're so flaming inept! I had to point out an 11-month-old TSB on the brakes!!
I wonder if you can bribe mechanics with Krispy Kremes, the way you can with computer guys...

Cost me $93 to have the following done at my mechanic. I am actually in the garage whenever I wait since it a local shop and he is my friend. Since I don't have a TL yet this was done on my Jeep.
State Inspection - PA $25
State Immisions - PA $42.15
Rotate Tires, Oil Change, Lube - $20 (now I bring my own oil and filter)
Guessing $129 isn't that bad for a dealer to charge for all that stuff.

What I don't like about Acura service is the majority of the service is check this shit, check that shit and if anything need to be fixed or is worn out, it is extra.
I have always taken my car into the dealer perhaps I will start taking it to the local guy.
