New Information on the SH-AWD Heads-Up Display
Looks like they've added all the various feature/details for the SH-AWD model, which includes details on the new HUD. Looks pretty awesome after reading the various types of information you can display with it.

This alone has me sold on getting one when it comes time to turn in my Advanced. I'm a hard-core techie. Have always wanted a HUD in the car

I am not sure why it took so long for this technology to make it into these cars. I remember my dad having a Grand Prix back in the 90's with a HUD....Not that I am saying that GP were great cars but the technology has been available for a while...why did it take so long to join the other brands?

When the public really wants something, the carmakers usually step up and provide it, for competitive reasons if nothing else. Apparently there hasn't been enough of a demand for them.

.
EDIT: There's also a safety concern - having moving numbers and graphics playing on the windshield is viewed by some as a driver distraction. Drivers might be focusing too much on the HUD and not pay enough attention to traffic.

My guess, Weather, is demand. Many of us couldn't care less about HUD's, and view them as gimmicks.

The fact that Acura is now including it standard in the RLX Sport Hybrid is a good thing for the market as a whole.
Like the HUD idea, it's about bloody time, Honda! Thanks for offering it.
The new info on the site also confirms that the Sport Hybrid will only have Tech and Advance trims. So I have to decide whether I REALLY need LKAS, ACC, and CMBS. I opted out of CMBS on my old RL and found my eyes worked just fine. My son would LOVE the rear heated seats on the Advance, however, and I like ventilated seats.
No price yet. C'mon guys....they are being produced already, how about a price? *taps toes impatiently*

I love the HUD on my Audi A6 - it's about time Acura added this to its flagship. One thing I will mention is that the Audi HUD was faint to invisible when viewing it while wearing polarized sunglasses. I switched to non-polarized sunglasses and now it's perfect.
It makes a big difference to not have to take your eyes off the road to see speed, navigation and ACC data.

^^ *LMAO* That would be cool but would take away the pleasure of showing them my REAL finger!! And GOD knows we have enough of those stupid drivers where I live.....somehow, they can't seem to remember dimming their high beam when coming towards other vehicles.
I found the HUD remarkably crisp and clear definition. The projected graphic looks like it 'floats' above the dashboard instead of reflecting from the windscreen. I was able to view it fine with polarized glasses. You can also adjust the height / position of the projection to accommodate the height / seat position of the driver. You can toggle between the various display options from the steering wheel, once you engage the HUD from the dash switch.
You really cannot see it from that passenger seat or rear passenger seat during the daytime. I am unsure if it is more obvious at night.
I would imagine this feature will trickle into the PAWS RLX and other models once the RLX and NSX have it exclusive for a model year or two.
Seeing how dynamic the SHAWD is, I can imagine this feature 'training' drivers to better achieve both the Sport and Economy attributes of the car.

Well I got to play with the HUD on the Sport Hybrid at the detroit auto show. To the left of the steering wheel near the instruments is the HUD button with an arrow on the left and the right. The arrows actuate a servo that tilts the visuals lower or higher in your field of view - so, closer to the hood or above depending on your preference. The visuals are very crisp and sharp with a nice font used and seem nicely calibrated for depth - the focus point is somewhere over the hood but close to you so I would think there would be practically no adjusting to read them while driving or at least thats what I remember thinking when I was playing with it. I took pictures and noticed that what I saw with my own eyes was larger than what I was able to photograph - definitely more in line with the pic shown in this thread but it appeared smaller on the camera.
I have pictures of Acuras display from the show and want to post them but can't find a step by step of how to do it - I swear I searched and searched
. Do I really need a flickr account?

I can't believe I sat in the Sport Hybrid in Detroit and didn't think to play with the HUD. DUH!
It's easier if you host them on another site. Alternately, I can host them for you on my imageshack or google accounts for linking here, if you email me the pics. LMK via PM.

That's pretty much it. It's better to use a free hosting site like Google, Picasa, others. Just put the links in your post between IMG commands like so:

I also sat in the SH-AWD RLX and didn't even know it had a HUD, I would have played with it if I had known.. doh!
