iPhone 5S on 7.0.6

iPhone 5S 64 <--I have noticed after the upgrade to 7.0.6, if you make sure that Bluetooth "Show Notifications" is ON for the HandsFreeLink settings, you will now get a popup in the NAV screen volunteering to read to you new incoming messages.

This did not work for me before.

You'll get the offer to REPLY as well; however, I have not been able to get the canned responses to send.

It's still a step forward that I can now hear the car read the messages to me.

Before this, I had to open the console, hold down the Menu button, and then play Siri off against "Hang up" to get it to read the messages.

That it integrates a new way with 7.0.6 is helpful.

You won't get the system to send a reply with an iPhone. It's not compatible with the software.

Yeah, no replies using the built in system but it has shown 'new messages' since iOS 7 if you enabled it in settings. You can however, send replies via Siri by pressing and holding the home button on the phone.

I was never able to read new messages until 7.0.6, whether or not I had notices turned on.

And I can of course send a reply by using Siri over the Bluetooth, but it is not what I'd call satisfactory because the car switches to the Phone interface when you do that, so you have to time it correctly against the NAV system saying "Hang Up."

:-)

I could be remembering wrong, but I could have sworn the permissions came with iOS 7. Gah, these things get so blurry these days.

Fortunately, I've added Siri Eyes Free to my ILX and it works quite well. Previously, I had disabled notifications from the car for exactly the reason you stated. Since I'm always on BT audio, it was a simple matter to have the phone notify me of an incoming message and to reply via the 'home' button on the phone. Now, I can use the steering wheel "talk" button to activate Siri.

Can you tell me a little more about this? I've never heard of it before. I'll search when I leave the site, but I've never heard of it.

Once SEF is installed, does it work through Bluetooth, or does it require having the phone connected through the USB port?

Siri Eyes Free is a software patch available for all '13 + '14 RDXs and ILXs (premium package and up). It allows secondary functionality of the in-car 'talk' button enabling a 'press and hold' feature to activate Siri equipped iPhones. It is a BT connection and disables the phone screen when in use.

Do I have to take my RLX to the dealer for the software patch, or can it be installed remotely?

Siri Eyes Free is a software patch available for all '13 + '14 RDXs and ILXs (premium package and up). At this point no further compatibility has been announced. However, if it were compatible with RLX, it would probably need to be done at the dealership like the other cars mentioned.
