It took a full 6 months after being released and I finally saw an RLX in the wild yesterday. It parked behind me at a wedding.

wow...what are the odds of your first time seeing one being parked directly behind you, and you being a Gen2 RL owner. Pretty awesome man.

And the second generation model doesn't look bad at all, in fact, from that angle, it looks better!

I agree. If it was not for the jewel headlamps the 2g would look newer! That RLX is so bland. Ive always loved the 2g RLespecially with the aspec package

I've seen you mention this many times in the past and have to ask, how are you defining bland? IMO, the RLX has significantly more surface detail in the sheet-metal. From the gentle upward kick that starts in the front bumper and extends to the rear wheels, to the concave surface details around the door handles. I'm not a huge fan of the front fender flares but do love the way the hood gently undulates. The front grill and chevron extends below the rear bumper forming a nice tapering "V" shape. To me, the whole package looks dynamic and almost looks like it's "leaning forward".

I can't speak for Dwest1023 but IMO I think the wheels kill this car and to me make it look bland.

I think the styling is nice, but I've mentioned it before, a different set of wheels would make a big difference in "wakening it up" a bit.

Hard to explain, but the RLX invokes no emotion when I look at it. The RL has a angry aggressive look to it. When I sat in the RLX I did not get the feel, I wanted to own this car. I even went back to the dealer a second time, and just sat in the car, closed the door. Nothing. The interior and the exterior do nothing for me. Just plain boring.

I went from not seeing one at all to seeing two in one week. A white one (while being very dirty) parked at the mexican restaurant by my apartment complex and a silver one about to enter the white oak shopping center here in Garner NC, right outside of Raleigh. The LED headlights were briliant shining very bright and it "prints" bigger and more supstantial than in pictures or vrs the 2G in my opinion. To me it has more road presence.

"The RLX is so bland"

Everyone is definitely entitled to their own opinion. But in my opinion: man is this is sooo far off base. This car invokes nothing BUT emotion for me. I love mine and every time I look at it I just grin. Had a random guy the other day walk by me in the parking lot at Home Depot and ask me "is that your car? man that's a really nice looking vehicle, they did a great job in the design..."

On the flip side, every time I see a 4th Gen TL I cringe. My 06 3rd Gen TL had that sleek beauty with a slight under-stated aggressive look to it. The RLX for me is the evolution of where they were on the 3rd Gen TL. The 4th Gen for me was a complete failed attempt with massive mis-proportions in the overall size of the front, rear and grossly mis-sized wheels compared to the size of the body. No idea what the hell Acura was thinking with the 4th Gen. Looks like a futuristic bath tub on wheels.

Just took a hot pic of mine the other afternoon before leaving work...enjoy!

Holo,
Your CBP RLX looks great. I agree with you on your thoughts about the look of the lines.

I agree, the first time that I saw a 4G TL I thought that it had everything it needed to knock the Pontiac Aztek off of its perch.

The RLX will look classy in 5 to 10 years from now, it takes a certain kind of design to be able to do that. The RL did it too.

Your RLX looks hot! I agree with your assessment of it. However, as a 4G TL owner I must disagree with your take on the TL. It took a while to grow on me but with the makeover in '12, I completely fell for it. Have a '12 TL Advance now that I love. But, I do like the RLX also. Hope you continue to enjoy owning it.

Funny you mention that, I saw a 4 Gen just the other day and noticed something different about it. It looks like the latest revision they scaled back the design some and give it a slightly tighter rear-end and slightly lowered the overall body design, making it fit better in proportion with the wheel size. For me it's still a little "lop-sided" looking, but I did notice it got sleeker in the new refinements.

You can really see it in this picture...

http://www.acura.com/TL/2014/Photos#...-city-street-5

And I think this article sums up exactly the issues I'm talking about that were in the 09-11 4 Gen TL...

I couldn't agree more. Uniformity is something Acura has lacked for some time now. But it looks like they are finally getting it and the models slowly starting to share the same fundamental design and shape, yet each model having just enough variances to make them unique. This is important, cause it gives Acura the ability to give all owners across the various income brackets the benefit of getting the same "Acura" experience, just at different price levels for what they can afford.

The ILX, RLX, and MDX are great examples of where they are going. IMO, the upcoming TLX should essentially be a smaller version of the RLX, just as the 5 series is a smaller version of the 7 series, but sharing pretty much the same design and shape.

Saw my first RLX in the wild a few days ago in a grocery store parking lot here in the DFW area. It was a silver/gray one (not sure the exact color name). Only saw the front end as it was parked there. It looked ok, I guess.

That pic above that BDoggPrelude posted with the white RLX ... that car looks damn nice in that pic!

I have seen exactly two. the first I mentioned already somewhere in this thread (a white one). i saw a black one a few weeks back. The 3G MDX's are popping up like rabbits around here (mostly, gray, white, and black). I have yet to see any of the other flavors. The RLX is a very handsome car. I would agree the wheels are less than desirable. If they put different wheels on the RLX...it would change the look of the car completely.

You have not offended me at all and I appreciate someone who feels comfortable enough to express their opinions. I like my 4G TL in most angles but there are certain angles where I am not a big fan of it it either.

At first, I was pretty harsh on the RLX but after seeing and sitting in one last week on a work related trip, my view on the RLX has changed 180!! It is a gorgeous and elegant vehicle (still feel it would be even nicer with better wheels) but the interior is just WOW!! I really liked it alot.....so much so that if the RLX is a flop, I may even consider one now...in WHITE of course

TLtrigirl....You don't posts as often it seems but every time you do, you manage to hit the nail on the head!! You are a very articulate contributor to this forum.

So it has been many many months since I have seen a RLX in the wild (I believe only 3 so far) but then yesterday I saw 1. There is no mistaking those jewel eyes coming at you. Also, the tail lights are very distinctive. This was at night so I could not tell much other than I think it was silver.

Then today, I saw another set of jewel eyes coming at me from across the highway. It is nice to finally start seeing some of these in the wild.

On a side note: my local dealer has had 1 base model for months. 1st, I am surprised that they exist, & 2nd I am surprised no 1 wants the low level version. They have been steadily selling all of their other inventory (mostly advance) but not that 1.

I commute almost every day into a major metropolitan area (DC), and to this day I have seen one, single RLX on the road other than mine.

It met me head on, on Purcell Rd in Prince William Co and considering the road's celebrated test of handling dynamics, I've always wondered if it wasn't a dealer's test vehicle.

Only saw 2 MDX

Yesterday, the grayish color, on I-480 west near Cleveland.

The tails are indeed unique, and as I blasted past in my V, the Jewel Eye became apparent. Nothing else like it on the road, even if the automotive media disagrees.

If #5 was at about 5:30 p.m. or so, that might have been mine. I pass that area daily.

I got one as a loaner today. My reaction was somewhere along the lines of "No! You totally hold onto my TSX!"

I love it. Would I buy it? Maybe. But I am kind of starstruck by the thing.

Another sighting.... in my driveway. loaner... she's covered in a layer of salt at the moment. Nice to have a few days with it... this time i'll have a bit more time to test drive than the first go around at my dealer preview event.

I'm not very far away from you.

At times like this, you wonder why they don't let us have the Canadian headlight washers down here, eh?

^^ goerge-i know what you mean. the headlights are caked in salt hiding the jewel eyed sexiness. the blue lettering on the front tag is now a whitish gray along with the rest of the front end.

my dealer better not feel compelled to wash my MDX. i broke my rule for taking it the dealer clean b/c i want the stupid cold weather noises fixed when it's still cold. around here cold also means that stupid white stuff.

the irony...both my acuras are gray on black...the RLX loaner...gray on black. it's kind of a nice addition to the ole stable i'd say!

weather-OMG...i'm feeling the itch to clean the RLX loaner up...car is way too nice to be under a layer of road grime.

^^yeah the sales aren't going too well. i was actually expecting to get a TL...the RLX was a nice bonus since i know they probably only have maybe 2-3 in their fleet. plus....helps when you have a good rapport. i felt bad for those guys...with all the snow and the freezing temps they were out clearing the cars off and a slow day.
