Unhappy Lease alternative

Just my suggestions - I too will await Colin's response for any "insider" tips he can give.
Please keep in mind, I'm not "up to speed" on lease/buy out options but, how is it possible to get a better deal since the buy price is stated up front at lease inception?
I know MB is known to strictly adhere to this price but, found this to be untrue when we reached maturity on a 2007 E350.
Does Acura negotiate the buy price at the end of a lease?
Selfishly, I'd like to see the RLX Hybrid sales tank, sosin' I can get one at a good price! It appears to be a superlative product but, $65-$70K seems excessive.

Purely speculation on my part that Acura may launch the RLX SHAWD with a special factory lease deal to try to get them out on the streets. By that I mean that the lease payments will be calculated at a price below MSRP which will be a better deal than the full MSRP price that most dealers will be charging for cash purchase deals (at least when they first launch). Again, pure speculation but somewhat supported by past history according to Colin.

If this is the case, then leasing the RLX for a couple of years and then paying the buyout price MAY work out to be cheaper than the best deal you could negotiate in a cash deal. This is based on the expectation that the rarity of the SHAWD RLX will have dealers not only charging full MSRP BUT also loading them up with every full price accessory/option known to man to maximize their profits on a sought after vehicle in limited supply.

SH-SH-AWD leas deal, I would be happy to see them ship the car. I think they will all go for MSRP+ Considering they will make only a handful. I am thinking they will make maybe 100-200 max.

I just completed some training on the RLX Sport Hybrid. First off, there will be two trim levels, Technology and Advance packages. Overall, it was very impressive. The transmission changes gears seamlessly and the torque from the electric motors provides quite a bit of thrust. I initially had some difficulty with the reactive force gas pedal, it seemed to make it very difficult to be smooth on the throttle. Also, the brakes are very touchy and they also added to that slight jerky feel.

Switching to Sport removed much of the difficulty, it resets the reactive force pedal to a low setting allowing for more linear throttle feel. Also, additional seat time help make it easier to "feel" the braking better. Engine start and stop was virtually invisible, the hybrid motors roll you off the line and the computer feathers the motor in as needed. It was almost impossible to tell when the motor switched on.

This drivetrain really pours on the power. It seems to keep coming and coming with no perceptible drop off well up to 80 miles an hour. We were never able to discharge the battery fully, the third motor upfront seems to do a good job of keeping the battery topped off. As a passenger, watching the power distribution display was extremely entertaining as the driver goes through twists and turns brakes and accelerates. Not something you want to watch if you are the driver.

I came away thinking they really need to find a way to get this drivetrain into a sports car (that real people can afford) or sports coupe.
I forgot to ask how the turning radius is in the hybrid compared to Paws

The Acura rep in the test car with me said the PAWS turn radius was smaller than the SH radius.

I was thinking that might be the case, but wondering if the inside rear wheel was aggressively braked it might be similar.

Delivery?

Didn't Colin, or someone, confirm that the RLX Hybrids were on the boat to the US? How long does transit actually take?
If this is true, it seems odd the Acura website continues to state "coming soon".

While at my dealer on Long Island two weeks ago he said they had one 2014 arriving "soon". I told him I wanted a test drive when it gets there-no call yet.....................

I'm not even thinking about the RLX Hybrid or the TLX SH-AWD until December.

At some point, you realize the wait is futile, and that people really and truly just have no bloody idea.

:-)

December is a very good time to buy a car, anyway.

Although, I am sure I'll take a greater than normal shellacking (to use the President's term) on the RLX P-AWS car.

I'm curious, which dealer? Since I'm also on the Island.
I haven't been terribly impressed by any of the LI dealers as far as aggressive pricing, although Island has very customer friendly sales staff.
Rallye is very accommodating if your chauffeur driven Bentley waits curbside while you browse

Actually it is Rallye-their pricing is really not bad as long as you do your homework. Their dealership is the only one on Long Island that trats you like an upscale brand should.

They weren't very competitive when we shopped for our '10 TL, which I found surprising since they seem to move the most units.
It also surprises me they're only getting one RLX Hybrid. Considering their volume in our area, I'd have guessed they'd get a few.
Ah well, we'll know soon enough and I won't be in the market till next year.

Japan just isn't building any of them. One of my contacts who ought to know about these things says he only sees about 250 of them altogether, and he still says that even if the RLX suddenly got popular they could only ramp up to make 12,000 total RLX in 2015.

The way that things are going, it doesn't look like they'd need anything more than about 2,000/year.

People act like the RLX is a failure, but judging from what he's saying, they never counted on much.

Yes, based upon everything I have seen from inventory levels to the amount of promotion, I do not think that Acura ever really had big plans for the RLX & even less so for the hybrid.

Anyhoo, I called all the dealerships in the area & most said they expect them in like a month but each saying 1 or 2 only.

In the meantime I have been shopping around & the E Class is nice but I am amazed at how cheap some parts of the interior are. The Infiniti M37 is much better looking in person (in pics the interior always looked too busy); they have several 2013s left that they are taking $11k off the sticker. Strange that they have no Q70s. Lexus never gives me the time of day so hopefully next time someone will show me the GS350.

Acura needs to hurry up or they will definitely lose a potential sale here ...

On a side note: I saw a ZDX last night - that is even rarer than the RLX in the wild.

250? Eegawds!
Is that 2000 estimate worldwide or US?Anyone have the US sales numbers of the RL, say since 2009?
Maybe the Hybrid/electric technology is a ? to most buyers in this segment?

We had an E350, it was a great car BUT, MB "nickels & dimes" you to death, everything is alacarte! For one, leather should be standard in this segment.
Close friend has an M35(37?), nice but, nothing special.
If I had unlimited funds, I'd go E63 Wagon. Yeah, I know...I've always liked the versatility of wagons!
The TSX wagon was too small & underpowered

I sincerely hope this is not true as I was really waiting to try the hybrid.

At this point, I'm seriously looking at the discounted PAWS RLXs as given the lack of popularity, the discounts are HUGE and so the lease payments will be much less. I'm also considering not buying at all for now--haven't had a car payment in a while and it's not so bad. The TLX is not a bad choice, but the rear seat room of the RLX is a HUGE plus in my family.

To keep miles off my V wagon, I've been daily-driving my S2000 for a few weeks and even without traction control (and now that I've got an HPDE under my belt so I can handle better), it is quite competent in Cleveland's wet weather.

anyone have the numbers of the manufactured Acura 2001 02 03 CL TYPE S????? They said the same "limited production noise" as well....... same ole act.....nothing new..... Acura never sold the RL in volumes anyway (due to many circumstances: boring/conservative/no V8 ETC...).....TLX, MDX, RDX will be their cash cows....not the RLX or the upcoming NSX.....Limited bend over blah blah blah....besides who has 70K cash ++++++ to blow.....????

just got back from picking up my car at Dealer - had the side molding put on.

Dealer confirmed only 250 in the 2014 production run. They are only getting 1 car and that will be in August. They had expected 3 in 2014, now just 1. Since there are 280 or so Dealers, some will not get any
