Please give me some advice

I'm currently looking to buy an Acura RLX. There are 2 at a local dealership. One is an early 2014 Advanced and the other is a 2015 Tech. I've read about the problems of the 2014s and I was wondering of the 2015s had the suspension problems fixed.

When I test drove the 2014, he suspension seemed alright, but the roads were not that bumpy. I really enjoyed the Krell and the cooled front seats. The 2015 was not there yet so I didnt get a chance to test drive it. Is the ELS that much inferior to the Krell? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Assuming you are in the US. The 2014 and 2015 non-hybrid RLXs are the same, but some suspension issues were reportedly addressed for 2015. If I had a choice between a 2014 Advance and 2015 Tech with similar miles, I'd choose the Advance every time. The Advance has CMBS and other features that made it worth the cost over the Tech.

I'd test-drive the 2014 over bumpier roads and if good (no clunky sounds or overly firm ride), and if most important TSBs addressed (especially because it is an early build), then go get it.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a way to tell if all the TSBs have been done?

Ask an Acura dealer to run a service report for the VIN you are interested in. Sometimes the dealers report to CarFax, and so that information may be on a CarFax report.

I just looked over the TSB thread. man, that's a lot of work. Assuming none of it has been done, how long would it take for an Acura dealership to do all of those?

And, if they are all done, does that mean I DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY about the suspension?

Thanks for your help.

Issuing a TSB does NOT suggest that all of the models from that range are afflicted with the stated problem.

Every time an Acura dealership makes a claim for warranty work, Acura makes note of the problem. If more than one or two of the same problem is noted, they work out a TSB for a fix so that IF other dealers come across the same problem, they have a solution already worked out and have an easy way to determine exactly which parts they will need to fix it.

What I'm saying is that your car may or more likely may NOT display any of the issues noted in the TSB thread. That said, the suspension issues were widely reported and as neuronbob suggested make sure you take a thorough test drive to make sure you are happy with the ride.

My two cents on the dilemma you face...I'd choose the Advance package as well, especially if you do a lot of highway/freeway driving - the adaptive cruise control will change the way you view highway driving.

Good luck.

I had a 2015 RLX P-AWS, and the suspension was flawless. Maybe it was just the one i had, but i had never heard any cluncking or strange noises coming from the suspension. Oh and let me tell you, we have some bad roads here in NY and MA.....

I think the biggest driving revelation that anybody with a FWD RLX will have is that P-AWS really does make a difference.

:-)

It's not a gimmick.
