Odd Zip Sound When Turning OFF

So I have had my RLX-SHAWD for almost a year now and I noticed recently that when I turn the car off there is a "zip" type sound that comes from the rear of the car. It sound more electrical than mechanical but I have no idea what it is or if its always been there and I just noticed it. Does anybody else have this and is it normal? With a hybrid set up there certainly are a lot more different sounds not to mention a lack of a number of others but this one puzzles me.

The electric parking brake makes sort of a zip sound, but i don't know if you are engaging it at the same time you turn off the car.......

Good question, I thought that might be it so I have deliberately delayed turning the car off until after I have engaged the parking brake. I now wait a few seconds but I still hear the sound. Its is similar but louder.

Thanks. I will pay close attention tomorrow, to see if i can hear any additional sounds.
I take it the ICE is already off at that time, correct?
Do you hear the sound if you put it in sport mode and then turn the car off (so the ICE will be on)?

Yes the ICE is already off (I back in on EV only). I haven't tried it in Sport mode but I will tonight, thanks. One other thing that I hadn't thought of is my parking spot is on a slight incline so I now wonder if that makes a difference.

I doubt that a slight incline would be the cause the SH to do something different.......but who knows with this car being so complicated.....
I believe neuronbob parks in his driveway which has a slight incline, maybe he can confirm?

OK, so when I turn off the car before engaging the parking brake there is no sound so I guess problem solved conversely but even if I wait 5 seconds after engaging the Parking Brake while the car is on the sound is there in addition to the brake engaging sound. Thanks for the insight pgeorg, this was really bugging me.

Thanks for the update. I will take a look at the service manual to see if there is something that would explain this.
Not that we solved anything, but at least it won't stress you out for now :-)

PS I always engage the parking brake, then turn the car off.....never heard any kind of sound (aside from the parking brake sound), or maybe i did not pay attention to it. I will when i drive it again, though.

I haven't noticed this before either, but I'll keep an eye out.

I have not been successful in recreating this noise as of yet, but I will experiment with incline/decline, start/stop, forward/reverse combinations.

With my foot on the brake, I switch off the car.

Car goes into park by itself.

Apply parking brake.

[ZIP noise of brake engaging.]

Take foot off brake and exit.

Happens every time. I just got used to it and don't worry about it. :-)

I tried every combination I could think of. No noise other than the typical sound the parking brake makes when turning it on and off. The one sound I do here every time I open the driver's door and the lights turn on is a metallic ding sound that seems like it is the front brakes priming or something like that. It even makes a slight vibration in the door when I open it. It sounds like the brake calipers are squeezing the rotors, as that is the area in which I hear the sound coming from. It has done it since the first day I bought the car, and does it consistently and repeatedly. My dealer tech said it is normal, but could not tell me what is making that sound. Has anyone else heard it? I have my lights set up to be on auto so they come on in the garage and then the sound is heard. I just did it again just now to be sure and it did it just as I am trying to describe. Any ideas?

Nerts, sound is back. Going into the dealership this week to figure it out. Its really a pretty small issue but I just want to make sure I am not doing more damage by continuing on with out having it formally checked out. Thank you to everyone for their input and trying to duplicate it.
