Silver Shadow

I'm not sure how many of you will be old enough to remember this, but in 1965 Rolls Royce brought out its first non-frame vehicle that was supposed to be the Way Ahead for Rolls Royce.

It was leagues ahead of the Silver cloud in many, many ways but things just didn't work out very well.

Hang on a minute...did I just calculate 6 miles per (imperial) gallon, or is my math off?

Am I really supposed to be able to hold onto this steering wheel?

Rust? What do you mean, rust? Granny's Wraith went 30 years without rust.

Do I push this, or twist it, or how does that work?

Wait, wait...to get defrost, I think that lever at the top goes to the left, and the one at the bottom has to be in the middle. I'm not really sure what you do with the lever in the middle.

I'm sorry. I don't know how much HP I have. The owner's manual says "adequate."

Damn. The window's stuck halfway down again.

This is maybe relevant because this is how the past couple of weeks have gone for me with the 5G Legend. :-) I can tell it's the Way Ahead, and it's awesome in so many ways, but, still...are you sure it's supposed to work like this?

LOL....

As of right now with 10,000 miles on my SH, it is working as it's suppose to, for me. I have not one complaint, or something odd going on with it.

Of course yours is 2 years old, and have many more miles than mine (45,000 i think)......

I hope its just a couple of odd things going on with your SH, and they get resolved soon.....

Thanks George!

No sign it'll be soon. :-(

They won't use the parts in stock in California, apparently, and they're waiting to get new rocker arm assemblies that were somehow either redesigned or made of different material...or something...nobody's really sure but they want the new parts, not the old ones because they don't want the same issue to develop again.

I'll probably hang in there with this car until 2018, just to see what it is they're going to come up with for the 2019 model year.

But this is the first time since 1989 I've felt that I might be at the end of the road with Honda.

I can go to a different line like the TLX or the MDX, I guess, but that's just a totally different vehicle and I don't like the idea as much as I liked the Sport Hybrid idea.

I've been driving this TLX for a while, now. Racking up miles. There's nothing really *wrong* with it so much as I've sort of moved past this kind of vehicle for my everyday needs.

The 4G TL 6-6, I could still deal with that, I think, if they still made it.

With the TLX, it just sort of feels like a 300 HP FWD Civic, more or less, except that it steers better because they've tuned the P-AWS response much better. But with no HP going to the rear, and no LSD, it's too easy to lose traction with all that HP up front.

Can't find a way to tune out the reactive force pedal, either. I'd have to drive around in Sport Mode all the time to get pedal response, I think.

Here's to hoping they get the Legend fixed perfectly, and that 2019 model year sees a really solid improvement to their high line sedan that'll keep me out of Lexus. :-)

A high point is that both Honda and the dealership are evidently taking it seriously. They're doing the best they can with what they have to work with, that's clear.

While I am not happy to hear about the problem, I am happy that they were able to properly diagnose it, and are taking responsibility for resolving it. Keep us in the loop. All the best.

Well. They think they diagnosed it. :-) We haven't driven the final results yet.

I'm impressed how hard they tried, though, the dealer and Honda both.

Thanks for the update George! At least this is not a problem (if diagnosed correctly) specific to the Sport Hybrid, but a general problem to their 3.5l DI using VCM....... That would mean that the TLX and the MDX will also be developing this problem.......I guess this is why Honda is taking this very seriously.

I actually felt the same way about the TLX, when i drove it few times.......nothing like my 2012 TL SH-AWD......such a shame that they could not keep the soul of the TL SH-AWD in the TLX :-(
IMHO even my 2012 TSX Wagon was much more of a drivers car then the TLX.

At least you have a very good relationship with your Service Department, so if need be they will call a Field Engineer to take a look.....
