Maybe I missed this awhile ago, but the krell and els systems can't play DTS CDs, DVD audio or DVDs for descrete 5.1 playback?

I read it does suedo surround with DTS decoding.
Did any models have the capability or was it removed?

I read that DVD-A playback was removed from els 2015+ models.

 

Kinda not sure. DVD-A did not catch on like the laser disc they fall off the view of the consumers. In today's streaming world, I think the wireless and USB media replaced most of the disc shape media. I didn't even touch the DVD drive in my previous RLX hybrid, prob. gonna do the same with the current one.

 

The Krell system in the RLX will play DTS discs, but it does not support DVD-A as the previous ELS systems did...

 

But the system reads DVDs to update the navigation system, so can it at least play MP3s from a DVD disc? I asked this question in another thread, but it seems more appropriate here.

 

Responding to my own question, today I tried burning a bunch of MP3s to a DVD+RW disc, and it did play in my 2016 SH-AWD. This will come in handy before long trips!

 

Have you also consider utilizing the USB drive? In my 2016 RLX SH, I mainly use the USB to play all of my collections. Now that I'm in the 2020 RLX SH, still doing the same thing:P Of course I also use blutooth, XM and Pandora. Never get bored

This is a good suggestion. I have to admit I hadn't really considered using a USB stick because I tried it in our 2019 RDX and didn't like the way it worked. It seems to work better in the RLX, though. And using it would save wear and tear on the aging disc player!
