Took the car to Napa over the weekend. Just for kicks, we drove on Sage Canyon Road which was one of the roads that the very first test drives were driven. Weather was fantastic, but Too many bicyclists to really do any real sport driving. At least I can say I went on that road

The RLX in no way feels slow, thanks in part to a transmission that's willing to work with you when it comes to properly delivering power. We drove the car along a long stretch of Sage Canyon Road in Napa Valley – a truly excellent road, if you get the chance – and with the transmission in Sport mode, the RLX was eager to hold a gear for long stretches of quick curves and would even preemptively downshift every now and then when it detected braking before turning into a corner.

 

Nice. The RLX is certainly no slouch in PAWS form.

 

Yes - really enjoying the car and I've said before that I like the styling. There was a Q50 in the same Hotel as we were and it did not do anything for me. Interestingly, it was parked next to an Avalon and the rear of each is very similar.

As for the RLX, too much traffic to really test Sport mode. However, it feels like it accelerates noticeably faster getting on freeway than my RL. Also, turning radius is significantly better. Notice it just getting into parking spaces.

Really like the stereo!!

 

This is a HUGE deal. I remember parking my RL. It was like parking an SUV in some spaces because of the huge turning radius.

 

Turning radius has definitely improved, that was one of the first things I noticed on the loaner I had. Sport definitely holds the gears longer too. I really like the RLX's transmission, from the hundred or so miles I drove it shifted smoothly and without any hiccups....

 

It's strange to me seeing people citing the RLX for a good turning radius. To me, it seems almost excessive, and I swear it's a couple of feet more than my TL was.

Wholeheartedly agree that they've tuned the motor and transmission very well. Very nice performance when it really matters.

 

Im another one that can attest to the RLX having a great tirning radius. My 3G TL was a boat to turn.

 

Sorry, George, I have to agree on the good turning radius. At parking lot speeds the RLX is rather surprising in how sharply it turns in. I can nail parking spaces that used to require a backup and second shot.

I believe you guys...it's just hard to understand.

 

If you are at low speed, like turning a corner from a stop or pulling into a parking space, and you turn the wheel briskly, the car almost pirouettes on itself. It has caught me by surprise more than once doing this.

I'm sure it's this behavior that makes the turning radius feel so short.

Was just thinking about this in regards to the Hybrid. I doubt if torque vectoring will help at low speed parking, so the Hybrid will not have as good of a turn radius. Agree?
