I discovered today while using my Fitbit Charge HR for the first time that it registered the hand/arm movements while I detailed the Blackbird, as walking steps. 37,000 arm movements later I completed the task. It registered my "steps" as having walked more than 15 miles, while I never left arms reach from the car for the last 6 hours. I thought the Fitbit responded to foot impact. I guess not.
By the way the Blackbird looks very sharp! My procedure was to wash, clay bar, wash, dry, then apply and remove 3 separate steps or applications of sealer, butter wax, carnauba wax, then top it with detail spray.

I have found that i am addicted to my Charge HR. It also will show you how sedentary you are by recording the number of times you do 250 steps in an hour. While the accuracy isn't perfect, I have found the moviational impact is great.....yesterday you did xx,xxx steps so today you want to try to do the same or more. IT doesn't matter what the number is but only that you try to meet or exceed what you did before.
So the next time you shine up the Blackbird, see if you can do a little more polishing to get more steps [and a shinier finish].

You may not have done the steps but you still got some good exercise. I think the Fitbit works off of a motion chip in the device which keeps track of your arm movement along with a GPS tracker. It also measures your elevation.

I detailed my SH yesterday as well. I do not need a gadget to tell me how much effort I put into the chore. My back, thighs and arms made me well aware when I got out of bed this morning!
It calculates calories burned exactly like the tread mills, et al at the gym.
Its an estimate based on your weight. Work = force x distance.
Work performed can be converted to calories required. Its an estimate not taking into account the variables of your specific body efficiency. In addition, the fitbit can account for uphill/downhill effort, but can not account for wind or other variables like surface, i.e., running in sand requires more effort than running on paved surface.

I have to say RLX-SH that you did quite a bit of detailing in that 6 hr period - very efficient. I just got my ChargeHR and use it in tandem with my FitBit One. Different readings from both units. And, if you want it to rain just wash your car. Last Thurs and Fri I registered 17" of rain at my house and more is on the way. Plus, a roof leak has come to visit.
