Healthy dose of sarcasm there. As long as it performs, I guess I won't care in the end. Good idea to install the seats from the MDX too...
I believe there is something wrong with you.
Where is the Sarcasm at?

Everyone seems to have incorrectly guessed at the new RLX:

Chrome SH-AWD = Mechanical.
Green SH-AWD = Hybrid.
Blue SH-AWD is Diesel.

Every time the computer detects a greater than X Yaw rate then a diesel fires up to help the rear wheels dig in. The economy is great and the handling on roundabouts is second to none!

Hybrid reviews????

Bob,

Has Acura made cars available to reviewers yet but embargoed their publishing them until the unveiling or will we have to wait longer than the opening of the LA Show to see some reviews?

I'm in LA and expect to visit the LA Show to see it for myself but the appearance probably isn't all that significant since how it drives is the critical thing.

There should be 'something' on the Acura.com site starting 19th or 20th.

We'll find out tomorrow, I'm sure.

I sure hope there are some reviewer test drives out there. There ought to be. I agree with you that given that the car looks pretty much the same as the FWD model, it is the drive that I am excited to hear about.

I am psyched about this release even if the bulk of RLXs is not coming until the spring.

How can I not be psyched? The city mileage is DOUBLE the overall mileage I'm getting on my CTS-V.

Any guesses on pricing yet?

Do you think they will do similar packages like the FWD RLX or will there only be one model...

Its frustrating, I can get a MDX with tech package for under 50k....Acura has way over-priced this vehicle IMHO.

Yea, the mdx seems like a value as compared to the RLX, then again, they're two different vehicle types. And, the rlx as compared to the A6, Lexus LS, and others is a pretty decent value.

There will be two packages, Tech and Advance. As for overpricing vs. the MDX. Keep in mind that the RLX is made in Japan and there are currency fluctuations and import tariffs to deal with (MDX from Alabama does not have to worry about this). Think back to when this car was being developed, the Yen was at 80 to the dollar. With the Yen now at 100ish, there is dealer cash to 'give back' to the customer.

Have any dealerships received their demo SH-Hybrid RLX yet, other than what George Knighton has reported?

You're near me. It'd be a bit of a hike. Not even sure why I was asked. I think people remembered me from a decade and a half ago...way back in ITR days.

Dealerships around you are supposed to have one in just a few more days, under a week.

I hope you're not disappointed.

Unfortunately, unlike economy sedan buyers, when luxury sedan buyers shop for a $50+K premium sedan, most want one with outstanding brand name status, not one with the best value buy.

That's why the runaway successes of the E-class and the 5-series from the best-value RLX in overall sales.

Good point about the Yen, I'm hoping there will be some good incentives on the car. I agree with you on the MDX and I also realize there's some expensive tech in this car which isn't cheap (not gonna lie -- the expensive tech worries me a lot when the warranty expires). We shall see....

Unhappy VTEC rumor

Temple of VTEC
So what of the other new components to the Acura Division sedan lineup? The RLX Hybrid: The are 200 2014 Acura RLX Sport-Hybrids on a boat from Japan to California right now. The top selling 200 dealers will receive 1. Then, another 25 2015 Acura RLX Sport-Hybrids will be given to the next 25 top selling dealers (201-225). The problem with this? There are 274 Acura dealers in the nation; meaning that while most dealer will only be so lucky to get one Acura RLX Sport-Hybrid, some will not be getting any at all for the time being. Making for abysmal sales for a flagship sedan.

going to be a very rare bird

Not sure I get the 25 2015 number. They are only making an initial 25 2015 models? And, why give those to Dealers ranking 201 to 2025
That does not make much sense

Red face Hmmm

I think that he meant 2014, not 2015. So on this boat shipment, there are 200 2014 RLX hybrids that will go to the Top 200 dealerships. On a later shipment this year, there will be another 25 2014 hybrids to be given out to dealerships 201-225; the bottom ~50 get none. So a total of 2025 2014 RLX hybrids will be available ... ?

Guess there will be no discounts unless nobody in my area wants 1 but me. Unfortunately, there is 1 guy in my area that bought a 2005 RL, then a 2009 RL & then a 2014 RLX - I am sure that this is on his shopping list. I wonder if we could see the list of the top dealerships anywhere -- would they be the Dealerships of Distinction?

does not really jive with what my Dealer had told me. My Dealer said they would be allotted 3 for the year and 1 would arrive every 4 months. I doubt if my Dealer is in the top 200 - I guess its possible

The additional 25 still seems odd though

I'm still looking forward to seeing them on the streets, even if they will be rare.

Not sure I'll think it's worth the money on top of already buying an RLX Advance...but, ya never know.

I'm also very interested in the 9-speed, SH-AWD TLX, too. :-)

I think if Acura is going to do this, I will likely end up with a TLX SH-AWD, or an additional Cadillac as a daily driver.

Thankfully, despite what it seems in my posts here, in the real world, I'm not really in a hurry to buy. We'll see what happens.

Yeah, I am now solidly resigned to likely having to wait until the 2016 model year RLX SHAWD to make my purchase - unless I am tempted to jump ship to another brand. I priced out a Q70 AWD yesterday and it got to $80,000 (Canadian), so the RLX AWD still seems like a relative bargain. I don't think the Q70 is selling in any volume at all up here in Canada, so huge discounts might be available. I looked at Lexus as well and I can't get past the funny looking grill. Just my two cents.

From listening to the comments on this forum, it sure seems as though Acura could build 5000 SHAWD RLX's and sell them pretty quickly at $5000 off MSRP. Just putting that out there in case anyone is listening.

I agree that the limiting the number of SHAWD RLX's made/shipped may be motivated by Acura attempting to maximize profits and recoup some R & D cash. This would be the classic "we have something people want, let's make them pay through the nose for it" marketing ploy. As I've said before, Acura might be shooting themselves in the foot with such a strategy since the PAWS RLX has not been a sales superstar and the few loyal Acura buyers waiting for the Hybid might just move on to other brands rather than continue to wait and then bend over and pay full retail price or more.

This may be an over-generalization, but I believe Acura buyers in general tend to be "thriftier" than those loyal to some other brands. They have stuck with the Acura brand because it offers much of the technology and performance of other more expensive brands but at a better value related to pricing. That is why I believe a better marketing strategy for the RLX SHAWD would be to build 5000 of them, put a $5000 "New Model Rebate" sale sticker on each of them and then watch them fly off the lots. Once you get the car out on the streets, the general public would hear the owners bragging about how much they love the car and bragging about how great the performance is and how great the fuel economy is and maybe the result would be that the RLX would grow a following and continue to sell at decent numbers for years to come instead of fading into oblivion like the RL did.

Just my opinion.

They did that concept with the All new 2001 Acura CL "TYPE S" and it worked....but then their transmissions started to blow out due to crappy design of the 3rd gear deprived of coolness.....
I am not interested in being their TEST MULE for this new RLX......I will wait and see how that 8 & 9 speed tranny pans out in the awaited all new TLX..... The climate is F A S T and deal with failures later...... NO THANKS.....But I will say that my 2004 Acura RL is the BEST most reliable vehicle I've owned ytd....it was the LAST of an 8 year production run.....did they sell in volumes??? NO and Acura wasn't interested in selling them in volumes.....SOS
volume sellers will be the MDX/RDX and TLX Btw the RLX IS the test mule for the future NSX.......

A better motto for Acura owners would be "stealth wealth". Because people don't get rich by actually spending money, you know. Acura owners were "stealth wealth" before the term became popular the last few years.

I would add that I've viewed our client base as the "working wealthy". People who are well off, but didn't inherit their wealth. Generally, highly placed (20 years plus) government workers, upper management (but not the CEO), and others in stable, well-paying jobs.

Colin,,,,can we campaign to get Acura to replace Chevy as the official H5-O vehicles? I am Grace Parks #1 fan! I have the restraining order to prove it.

Product placement might help too!

Colin -- anything thing you can add to the arrival time of the RLX Hybrid?? I am beginning to agree with Neuronbob's use of vaporware to describe this car.

i'm going to look at the Audi A-7 this weekend since I can't wait much longer to replace my '05 RL. It has 120,000 miles and needs to be replaced. I wanted to compare it to the Hybrid but for now the comparison is impossible.

Well, it's not quite vaporware. There is one sitting .5 miles away from me that I cannot drive because it belongs to AHM for training (for us). It obviously exists but when we'll get cars to sell is still a mystery.
