Smart entry unlocking problem

Does anyone have a problem with the door not unlocking when you have your hands on the door handle (Smart Entry)?...particularly the driver door. Every now and then when I grab the driver door handle, it does not unlock; so instead of reaching into my pocket and pressing the button unlock button, I just grab the rear door handle and it’ll unlock all doors.

I would bring it to the dealership but it doesn’t happen all the time so they might not be able to replicate it.

Mine will do that from time to time. I think my cell phone can interfere since I keep that in the opposite pocket fr4om my key fob. If I am turned a certain direction, the car won't unlock

Same thing happens to me. However, more often than not, someone is trying to open another door before I can unlock the driver door and it will take a couple of tries/pulls. Annoying, but not a flaw in the system.

Whether I have my phone in my coat pocket or the back of my pant pocket, my keys is always in the front pant pocket and this problem still occurs. I wouldn’t think the phone would interfere since I have an Accord with the Smart Key system as well and it always unlocks on the first try.

Check the battery status on your fob?

Otherwise you should check in with the dealer.

The MKX I had would do the same thing if I was turned to where my phone was closer to the handle then the FOB.. at least I sure though that was the cause. If I turned my body to where the right side pocket was closer, it'd work every time. I need to test it with phone in hand just to be sure.. hmmmm

Mine does the same. I would guess its related to moisture around the handle messing up the capacitive touch mechanism.

Lately my drivers side door will not respond to the touch but the back door always responds so I am sure it isn't the location or battery life of the fob. It is some sort of problem with the door handle sensor.

Are you wearing gloves when it happens? I know the doors react differently depending on what kind of gloves I happen to be wearing. I have a heavy pair of rawhide gloves that I have to remove in order to unlock the doors.

Always happening to me but only when there is snow/water on the handle. When it is dry, zero problem!

I had mine to the dealer and was able to demonstrate the behavior at the time of making the in-person appointment. On appointment day and as luck would have it, the problem corrected itself. Since they couldn't replicate it, they couldn't fix it. I too believe it is moisture/humidity related.

I have also experienced the same issue with the inability to unlock the door my depressing on the handle and I resort to reaching towards the rear door to open it. The car was in my gararge, no moisture so I am going to see if close proximity to a cell phone is causing the issue. I really doubt that given that the rear door unlocks without a problem. My car is only 500km.

Same issue here on 2020, from time to time, driverside handle won’t unlock the car no matter temp, moisture, phone location etc. Fine from other handles. Must be something wrong with sensor inside that handle ….
