side mirror clicking/struggling in reverse

My passenger side mirror started to click/struggle when it's trying to tilt down when I am putting car in reverse. Is there a simple adjustment needed, or its an indication of a mechanism failure?

Mine did that the other day due to ice in the mirror edge. Once melted it was fine. Not sure if that is your issue though.

If it moves down slightly then clicks back up maybe something is impeding its movement down..

It moves down but then begins to click and jerk up and down struggling to move further.

it could be a lot of things, including worn assembly mechanism…

Will it tilt down when adjusting on drivers door mirror switch? If it does the same thing I would use the end of a tie strap around the mirror housing and check for clearance..

It only does this on passenger side. I have my mirror switch set to the right to only have passenger mirror tilt on reverse. I tried switching it to the driver mirror, and it had no issues tilting when putting car in reverse.
it makes no contact with housing

It adjusts down, but I have not measured how much down compared to the driver side.
I cant tell if it should continue to tilt down even more, or its in a final position when it starts clicking.
The tilt angle is OK with me, just wish it would not click…

I seem to have resolved it for now, when car was parked and turned off, I gently moved mirror all way down.
then start car, set memory position to reposition the mirror and it started to work.

Strange, maybe its intermittent issue …

Failing motor mechanism

Sounds exactly like my TL mirrors were misbehaving. The motors that power the mirrors were failing on both sides with the right side much worse due to the regular tip down in reverse. I replaced them with new oem motors. Hardest parts is removing the mirror from the housing.

That would suck if motor starting to go, I dont think they sell motor separately and you need to buy entire assembly for like $600.
It works now, maybe gears just need cleaning/lube or adjustment.

What’s interesting, I had my mirrors for long time in neutral position, so there is not much usage for motor control to go bad that soon.
