Interior Windshield Greasy Residue
Interior Windshield Greasy Residue
Did a search and did not find a thread on this topic so.........I'm having a heck of a time cleaning the inside of the windshield. I've dealt with plastic interior out gassing before but this is a whole new level of a greasy residue that is very difficult to get off even with alcohol and clean micro fiber cloths. Anyone else with this issue and how do you clean the inside of your windshield?
I usually use isopropanol lens cleaner for routine "touch-ups" cuz I usually have it sitting around for my glasses.
For bigger jobs Sparkle glass cleaner is good.
The "original formula" Windex works, but it's a bit nasty because of the ammonia. The vinegar "all-surface" Windex formula may leave streaks.
The "nuclear option" would be a solvent like Goof-Off, but don't slop it on the dash. I only use this to get stickers off; it shouldn't be necessary for vinyl out-gassing residue.

I'd say use IPA or Invisible Glass for the greasy stuff.
You can get a rinseless wash (Griot's/ONR) and dilute it with water 1:256 (thats about 1oz per 32 ounce bottle) and have enough glass cleaner to last you the rest of your life for about $12. (Pro tip : use distilled water to prevent streaks, about 0.50/gallon)

LoL. Yea, but why? You're better off just using a microfiber and going over it again and again, and switching to a new towel when needed. I've washed the interior of the windshield 3x already and the car has 2.5k miles on it ... don't know if it's the dash off-gassing or it just came with a film from the factory, but it's getting clearer and clearer. There definitely is some residue on the windshield that's a bit of a pain to get off ... you think it's clear and then the sun hits it the right way and you see all the streaks. Hopefully this last treatment got it completely clean.
I'd steer clear of magic erasers as well.

In the early 21st century it was discovered that melamine foam is an effective abrasive cleaner.[2] The open-cell foam is microporous and its polymeric substance is very hard, so that when used for cleaning it works like extremely fine sandpaper, getting into tiny grooves and pits in the object being cleaned. On a larger scale the material feels soft because the reticulated foam bubbles interconnect. Its structure is a 3D network of very hard strands, when compared to the array of separate bubbles in a material such as styrofoam.[3]
The film in my interior windshield was so frustrating because I can’t get in there to clean it self so I went to a full-service car wash and asked them to go over it twice for me and for the moment it looks pretty clean! Hallelujah!
Costco has some good aerosol glass cleaner spray that I really like. I bought this green s towel set from Amazon. The light green is the heavier to be used first. Then the thinner darker green towel is the polisher for the glass. When I had mobility I used it a lot on my Mazdaspeed 3 with excellent results.
I am looking forward to getting my mobility back (I need a total knee replacement...happens in November).so I can do my own window cleaning of all 3 of our cars.

Earlier this year I purchased the "Invisible Glass Reach And Clean Tool" (Canadian_ ).
This tool makes cleaning windshields a piece of cake. With very little reaching I can easily clean the entire windshield. This includes the area close to the bottom where my hand could not previously fit.
The microfiber pad is such a dense weave, that it does not leave any patterns or lines on the glass. I often end up using it without any cleaning spray, as it seems to stick to any film or dirt and pull it off the glass.
When I do use a spray cleaner, I found that "Invisible Glass" works much better than any others I have tried.
Have a look at the YouTube reviews of this product to get a better idea of how it performs.
