Infotainment System Dead
Infotainment System Dead
It was nice while it lasted for about 2 days and 100 miles of usage, then it died. Started the car and the screen just has a pulsing white circle, tried everything I could think of but nothing worked. The backup camera is still functional but every aspect of infotainment is unavailable. I will call the dealer in the morning and I'm a little concerned as I have seen quite a few threads about infotainment issues for a vehicle that has only been out for ~1 month.

Between this and the moaning rear hatch, I'm seriously thinking to put my purchase on hold. Both of these problems seem to surface after delivery. Huge concern and Acura should take note. Hope they are reading.

i found out that remote start does not turn on the infotainment so as to not draw attention to the car. Maybe I didn’t hit the power button....there’s so many buttons and knobs! 😂
I have cars that I have purchased that were in production for years when I purchased and they had issues. Porsche had issues with High Pressure fuel pumps and I still buy them when i desire. So for those that feel compelled not to buy, wait until two years to buy the RDX and just read the comments. I can assure you that you may still have an issue with RDX as a one off. Acuras have been pretty reliable but technology changes the newer cars so we will just have to see. If it become too much of an issue,I can always buy another car and trade the RDX until I desire to come back to the brand. It is my daily driver and I truly like it for what it is.
Not really, I had to go out of town on business, drove the car to the airport and the infotainment system was still dead. Came back a couple of days later and it worked. Used it for for two days with no problem, then had the same issue again after parking at a store. This time, a simple restart fixed the issue. I gave the info to the dealer, they asked me to bring it in but I just have not had the chance.

if l am leasing, I wouldn’t care. But I also don’t have the time to make multiple trips to dealerships. Cars will always have break fix but manufacturing problems such as bad fits and bugs are usually more prevalent with 1st model. I purchased the first ever MB GLK350 and had water leak in front windshield that took 3 trips to dealers for them to even acknowledge and fix (and they were being genuine!)
if I was buying a 911, the want for the car will supersede the potential troubles and I would accept that upfront like you did. Acura RDX has a great reliability track record and that’s what I would expect and want.
CS and JDpowers will always advice you to avoid first year. There is a reason for that

Issue happen and if anyone thinks automobiles are defect free, they are sadly mistaken. Wait until 2002 when they offer updates and hopefully there are less issues in the updates.
No one said cars should be issue free. Parts breaks, MTBF are not met, recalls and failed components are part of the game but off the bat and out of the gate issue at 50 miles or less? No thanks.
Thankfully these issues are manufacturing maturity and will be improved over time.
Hopefully they will be addressed by the time I am in the market at year end.

Purchased an Aspec AWD yesterday after waiting a month for it to come in to the dealership. Parked for lunch (shade, 85 degrees, humid) and when I started back up infotainment center flashed between home screen and “touchpad is not available.” Radio control knob on console wouldn’t work (steering wheel controls still functional). An hour after sitting in the garage, infotainment screen was completely dead. So, less than 25 miles and 3 hours of ownership and I’m in a loaner while dealership tries to figure out the problem. No, nothing was ever plugged into the USB port. Purchased over other brands for reliability reputation.

What happens if you’re in a small town without an Acura dealer

What happens if you’re in a town with no Acura dealership. I know they will tow. Is it just too new of a car to buy if your dealership is over 100 miles away?

When using remote start, It does not come on until you get in the car and press the brake pedal
Was not using remote start with my Aspec, and still had a dead Infotainment center screen. Dealer said they are working with directly with Acura to troubleshoot and will status update me today. I'll let you know the outcome/solution.
Entirely plausible. I had a dash cam from a very reliable manufacturer that would go out of focus after a period of time. Problem was a bad batch of lens assemblies. Replacement works like a champ.
I applaud Acura for taking care of the various issues for this new model. I had a new Toyota once with a malfunctioning computer (from 1,000 miles) and the Toyota Corp. never would acknowledge it was a design/factory issue. We paid big bucks to have it replaced, because it wasn’t covered under their new car warrenty, then one year later...they had a recall on faulty computers. No refund of course. Haven’t bought a Toyota since.
On another note: I had a snafu getting the AcuraLink to register to my IPhone. (dealer said I needed to go in and register but when I attempted to, the site said we were already registered and I couldn’t access it) Called Acura for help and they were very helpful. They followed up the next day to make sure I had gained access...the technician also gave me a direct extension number to call if I had any more issues or questions (so they could issue a “ticket” on it should it not be resolved). I think Acura is really trying.
I also found out that, for the 2019 RDX, because of the new info system, they are providing Acuralink basic level free (ongoing for an unlimited time!), the other levels: Security, Remote and Concierge are being provided for six months (instead of the three months with other Acura makes). And as noted, Acuralink for the 2019 RDX is broken down into four tiers, instead of the three tiers with other models as well.

Latest update: I was supposed to have the car back yesterday but Acura is now sending a tech out to look at the car. Not clear if infotainment screen replacement was even attempted. Fine with me; rather be in a loaner a little longer and have it fixed properly on the first shot (if possible). Curious to hear from other owners with infotainment issues how their dealer or Acura is addressing the problem? My dealer is doing a good job with status updates and will be doing some tbd/minimal compensation for my inconvenience.
Any new update to this? My wife and I just bought an RDX A Spec Saturday and yesterday her infotainment screen started flickering after being parked 30 mins in the Texas heat. She said she put the car in reverse then when she went back to drive it was flickering for about 10 minutes then she shut the car off and turned it back on and the issue went away. We dropped the car off today for that and also our rear view mirror being distorted. We can see double images and it's worse at night due to all of the lights.
My wife's infotainment went out just an hour ago too. Won't turn off even when the car is shut off and armed. Sounds like we'll wake up to a dead batter tomorrow morning. I knew i shouldn't have bought a first year remodel, it was a great car until today. Drove for about a month! To the dealership i guess.... its a lease but still
Got my RDX Aspec back today (a week and 4 days with dealer). The tech that looked at the car said the screen wasn't an issue (back-up camera display still works) so Acura overnighted a new touchpad switch to fix blank infotainment center. Finally drove my "fixed" car for 40 miles with infotainment working (70 degrees, humid). My first real drive in the car and loved the feel! Turned the car off, came back 15 minutes later and when it started up, blank infotainment center. When started up back at the dealership, it just flashed "touchpad not available" again. I was hoping to share a solution with other owners experiencing the same issue. Sorry. My only recommendation is to video every incident as it occurs. The number of infotainment center complaints is growing and fingers-crossed there's a permanent solution soon.
Mine has been acting strange since the time it froze up, It has just shut off a couple of times and also has flickered. I may be getting a new screen sometime next week, so we will see how that goes
When we were looking to purchase the RDX, from what the dealer said...they do a run of a particular color for.a while. That makes total sense economically.
Playing Sherlock...Since there was a batch of these bad screens installed, is it possible they were put in only color(s) of the RDX being built at that time.. I see that Meto has listed their RDX as a Black Advance. A couple others have indicated theirs are A Spec models.
Are all the RDX’s having problems Black?

Yes, we think, only time will tell. My amazing dealer pushed back on Acura who wanted to try another small fix. Instead, dealer got them to approve replacing/installing what was described as the infotainment "motherboard." The part is expensive so Acura will want to try other things first. The new infotainment system has an occasional loud fan noise coming off it that I didn't hear with the prior unit.
