Remote Engine Starter

Need some help and I think this is the best spot for it. I bought my A Spec RDX at Virginia and had to drive it home to South Carolina. I have the remote engine starter for my car, but the dealership forgot to program the key fob. Does anyone know how to program the key fob? I tried calling a local dealership and they were going to charge me $180.

It's a long story on why I bought my car in Virginia, but the salesman i worked with wasn't really the best.

The remote starter is $499 list plus install. Did they not install it? Or did they install it but not program it?

I honestly have no idea what they did. The salesman I worked with had 10 days to get all the accessories I wanted to be installed and when it came to the day for me to pick it up, the wheel locks and remote starter wasn't installed/programmed. When i was driving back, I saw small box with the new engine starter key fobs, but it did not work.

The installed price is around $700 before any discount. The accessory price is just for two fobs. Sounds like they didn’t do the install.

The plan right now is to have my local dealership program/install the remote engine starter. They will then charge the Virginia dealership. I'm not blaming the dealership for all the issues I'm having. I blame the salesman, he just seems not to care. I would have went through a different dealership, but this was the closest place for me to buy the vehicle I wanted in my constrainted timeline

yep, good luck with that, although i'm sure you won't need it.

Point to this is, always do a thorough walk through before taking delivery. Lease or not, you are still taking home a 40k+ item that you can't return!!

Curry has the kit for $300 but the install is a bit much and the programming has to be done by a dealer

What do others know about the Acuralink remote start capabilities and cost? What does Acuralink use for a connection to the car (cell service I assume?). What service is that and is it included in the Acuralink price? Does the Acuralink remote start work well?

In the US its $110 per year and gives you remote start and analytics for your vehicle. Hotspot is not included but you don't need it for AcuraLink. That's about all I know. I'd like to understand more from someone who has this.

One other point - the dealer said if you buy/install the remote start accessory at time of purchase that it's covered under the vehicle warranty. If done after the fact, it's subject to a lesser warranty. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

For those considering the AcuraLink app for $110/yr, this is different from every other Acura and this is what you get:
- Remote Start & Stop
- Remote Lock & Unlock
- Speed Alert
- Geo-fence Alert
- Security Alarm Alert
- Find My Car
- Stolen Vehicle Locator
- Destination by Voice

No-charge features are:
- Owners Guide
- Recall Noticification
- Schedule Service
- Roadside Assistance
- Dashboard - Vehicle stats
- Vehicle Health Report
- Send Destinations (nav required)
- Last Mile Navigation

There is also a concierge service for $260/yr which includes the Remote Package.

Does anyone know if Acuralink would be prorated if you only wanted it for a few months out of the year. Honestly, the only future I want is the remote start from my app. But only from about November through March. Would Acuralink do a six month prorated plan?

I just bit the $600 bullet and had the remote start installed. I *HATE* using the AcuraLink app. It's slow and wants me to log in over and over, plus I really missed not having the green LED indicator on the fob confirming that the car is locked. They did a good job and the back of the car is tight and secure.

I may just disable the AcuraLink completely. I figure if I can start the car and do things to it with an app on my phone, then someone else with the right know-how can also start my car and do things to it with a hacked app or program. These days, who the hell knows what others can do with your connected stuff.

Im using AcuraLink remote (free for 6 months), $110 yr after and love it! I had a remote starter installed in my last Acura and prefer using acuralink. It is a little slower to start but I like that I can use it from a far distance and get real time stats on how long before it turns off and can extend the time. At $110 yr it’s far cheaper than having an actual remote starter installed

correct. I’m leasing for 36 months so it’s definitely cheaper this way

Plus with Acuralink you're getting additional functionality that would not be available with key fob remote start.

Agreed. Cool stuff but I’ve found it to be very buggy. Hopefully they make improvements.

you will want it in the hot weather months also. It senses when your car is hot inside and puts the ac on when you start the car. It also displays the inside temp of your vehicle after it’s started.

theres nothing better than remote starting the car after playing 18 holes and getting into a nice cool car blowing cool air on my swamp ass on the ride home.

I just got mine and I think I'm in the same boat as the OP. Remote start doesn't work, fob based, not Acura Link. Press the button on the fob and it responds with a red LED, nothing from the car. There is a remote start enable / disable function in the menu in the vehicle and I do have it enabled.

You have to press the lock button first and then press and hold the start button.

Yes indeed, its working now. I can't thank you enough.
I had read about the lock button but I thought pressing the lock button before the ENGINE button was not needed if the doors were already locked.
They probably require the lock button press immediately before the ENGINE button long press to prevent "pocket dialing".

isn't the whole idea about keyless fob is that you never have to take it out? including unlocking/locking your car? I thought if you walked away about 10 feet the car will lock itself after few minutes..... now, where is that online manual....

With the fob how do you confirm the remote start worked? Is there a way to have the parking lights turn on?

With fob when the engine start, you'll see green light on, on the fob, that's when you know the engine is running..

For the crazy high price I opted for the Acura Link starter. I can get Acuralink service for 6 years for what it costs for the remote fob to be installed. I thought the 300ft range for the fob was very substandard.
