Remote Engine Starter
Remote Engine Starter
Need some help and I think this is the best spot for it. I bought my A Spec RDX at Virginia and had to drive it home to South Carolina. I have the remote engine starter for my car, but the dealership forgot to program the key fob. Does anyone know how to program the key fob? I tried calling a local dealership and they were going to charge me $180.
It's a long story on why I bought my car in Virginia, but the salesman i worked with wasn't really the best.

I honestly have no idea what they did. The salesman I worked with had 10 days to get all the accessories I wanted to be installed and when it came to the day for me to pick it up, the wheel locks and remote starter wasn't installed/programmed. When i was driving back, I saw small box with the new engine starter key fobs, but it did not work.

yep, good luck with that, although i'm sure you won't need it.
Point to this is, always do a thorough walk through before taking delivery. Lease or not, you are still taking home a 40k+ item that you can't return!!

Curry has the kit for $300 but the install is a bit much and the programming has to be done by a dealer

What do others know about the Acuralink remote start capabilities and cost? What does Acuralink use for a connection to the car (cell service I assume?). What service is that and is it included in the Acuralink price? Does the Acuralink remote start work well?
One other point - the dealer said if you buy/install the remote start accessory at time of purchase that it's covered under the vehicle warranty. If done after the fact, it's subject to a lesser warranty. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
For those considering the AcuraLink app for $110/yr, this is different from every other Acura and this is what you get:
- Remote Start & Stop
- Remote Lock & Unlock
- Speed Alert
- Geo-fence Alert
- Security Alarm Alert
- Find My Car
- Stolen Vehicle Locator
- Destination by Voice
No-charge features are:
- Owners Guide
- Recall Noticification
- Schedule Service
- Roadside Assistance
- Dashboard - Vehicle stats
- Vehicle Health Report
- Send Destinations (nav required)
- Last Mile Navigation
There is also a concierge service for $260/yr which includes the Remote Package.

Does anyone know if Acuralink would be prorated if you only wanted it for a few months out of the year. Honestly, the only future I want is the remote start from my app. But only from about November through March. Would Acuralink do a six month prorated plan?
I just bit the $600 bullet and had the remote start installed. I *HATE* using the AcuraLink app. It's slow and wants me to log in over and over, plus I really missed not having the green LED indicator on the fob confirming that the car is locked. They did a good job and the back of the car is tight and secure.
I may just disable the AcuraLink completely. I figure if I can start the car and do things to it with an app on my phone, then someone else with the right know-how can also start my car and do things to it with a hacked app or program. These days, who the hell knows what others can do with your connected stuff.

theres nothing better than remote starting the car after playing 18 holes and getting into a nice cool car blowing cool air on my swamp ass on the ride home.
I just got mine and I think I'm in the same boat as the OP. Remote start doesn't work, fob based, not Acura Link. Press the button on the fob and it responds with a red LED, nothing from the car. There is a remote start enable / disable function in the menu in the vehicle and I do have it enabled.

I had read about the lock button but I thought pressing the lock button before the ENGINE button was not needed if the doors were already locked.
They probably require the lock button press immediately before the ENGINE button long press to prevent "pocket dialing".
