Using a USB memory stick

Is anyone plugging in a USB drive directly into the USB port? Reason I ask is because I thought I read something about getting a short cable instead of plugging in the USB directly. Did I read that here? Or am I losing my mind?

No, you're not losing your mind - at least not because of that. It's in the O.M. about the short cable and I'm sure it's been discussed here as well. I'm using a 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive with a 12" USB 3.0 cable and have no problems. Cable is cheap insurance versus having to replace the port in the event it's damaged so why not?

I got a 90 degree adapter off Amazon to use with a low profile flash drive. It doesn't flop around or get in the way like a cable, keeps the usb drive out of the way, and is easy to grab to remove it. The sliding cover still closes.
