Lightbulb Tech Tip for USB Memory Stick Audio Issue

The Acura TSX has a USB port that accepts IPod's and the cheaper USB memory stick / pen drives (poor man's ipod), this tech tip is for USB memory sticks.

Issue: The songs are NOT in order sequential order but in a random order.

Fix: Download foldersort, its a program that re-sorts all the files in the USB drive so that you wont have the problem again.

Folder sort can be got from:

http://www.jetman.dircon.co.uk/software/foldersort.html

Why the problem:

The issue happens to due to how Windows File Systems work. Our car has a FAT32/FAT compatible system, our computers for the most part are in NTFS file system.

NTFS sorts files by alphabetical order (in the file system journal), FAT/FAT32 sorts files by the order they were written to the device. That means if track 13 was written first before track 1, guess what, track 13 will play first before track 1.

Folder sort, re-sorts it so that this problem goes away.

Now because it does re-sort, unless you have a track number or something in front of your track name, it will re-sort it by alphabetical and that may not be the way you would want it to sort. So make sure your Source album have a track number in them.
