Apple CarPlay question

I never used Android Auto, but now that I have an iPhone I thought I’d give CarPlay a shot. I do notice it sometimes takes multiple times plugging the phone in to get it to work, but that’s not the question.

I’ve noticed that with CarPlay the touch pad is not 1:1. In other words, clicking on the upper left side of the pad doesn’t necessarily coincide with the upper left side of the display. I can see the item that will be selected and to get it to select something else I have to “swipe” it. Then it moves down or over one selection.

is this normal?

Yes, with Carplay the pad works like a laptop touch pad. Put your finger on it and drag it around. No absolute positioning.

Wow, that's very interesting. In the 10 months or so of using it, I never realized it can be dragged around like a mouse pad. I have only used the up/down/left/right to get around. Have to try that next time i get in the car. I have been down to driving it maybe once every 2 weeks now that I have been lucky enough to have been teleworking.
