Accuracy of Traffic Flow Indicator?

I have a couple of issues with the traffic flow indicator. First I’m finding it takes 5 to 10 minutes for it to appear on the screen. But even after it appears it often goes in and out. Or the main arterial roads will show traffic, but the highway doesn’t. The second issue is the accuracy. A couple times I was on a highway and it showed red when in fact traffic was moving along quite well. Are others having this issue or is it just me?

The traffic data seems to poor at best. I have also noticed it going in and out. Also it only shows your local area, so if you're going on a trip of 100 miles or so, you can't see traffic near the destination which would be helpful to decide what route to take. Of course since there is no easy way to change the scale while navigating to a destination you can't really look ahead anyway. I don't understand why they didn't program something like the steering wheel left scroll wheel to change it while driving

No, it isn’t you.

I agree that lack of normal scaling while driving is a major flaw. On the 2016 RDX I just rotated the infotainment control knob left or right to increase or decrease the scale. This nav has many flaws in my opinion. The only improvement over the 2016 is voice recognition. I find that works pretty well. Hopefully future software updates will improve the traffic flow feature.

Traffic is provided by HD radio, not the GPS of the navi. Its possible that there is spotty and/or no HD radio in your area.

I live in what is a "major' metropolitan area on the map. If I can't get accurate, reliable traffic information, the system is not working as advertised. From the Acura website:
HD Digital Traffic™57 uses the speed and bandwidth of digital radio to help you steer clear of gridlock within the major metropolitan areas of all 48 contiguous United States. This continuously updated traffic information does not require a subscription.
  1. Color-coded interstates, expressways and busy side streets indicate traffic flow levels.
  2. Data comes from highway sensors, other car navigation systems, construction alerts, incident reports and historical data.
  3. Data updates can occur as fast as every 30 seconds.
  4. If an alternate route is at least two minutes or 10% quicker, Traffic Rerouting™57 will suggest it.
The last several cars I had used SiriusXM for traffic. It worked fairly good. I drive in the same areas, and take similar trips as before and find the Acuralink traffic not as good, when it displays. I have been driving along an Interstate and find the traffic disappears while in route. Sometimes there is traffic shown on one side of the road and not the other. If this is because of spotty FM radio reception the traffic system is poorly designed and a poor choice for a Luxury vehicle.

Exactly. I live in a medium size metro area and frequently travel to a large metro area and it doesn't make any difference. I don't have any issues with HD FM radio reception. I believe my 2016 RDX used Acuralink and it worked fine. It wasn't perfect, but it didn't lose traffic displays, usually appeared within a minute from start, and was reasonably accurate. I find this system useless.

I live in the Kansas City area and this feature just does not work at all. I recently was within a few miles of work and there was a major accident that impeded my usual route. There was no notice and no alternate route, so I can only pray that Android Auto comes soon so I can use Waze again for my morning commute.
