I remote start for 10 mins and then maybe a second 10 if it’s really cold. That’s not my worry, My biggest fear is parking my warm RDX outside after I’ve been out and then some mice decide to make a home in the engine bay, get hungry and start chewing on stuff. Had some mice that decided to make a home in the cabin filter area in our Lexus RX-350 some years ago.
I garage it. The garage is not heated but the car never feels nearly as cold as if it had been outside all night. I never prestart or warm it up in the morning. I get in, start it and only wait about 30 seconds or so before I back out. Just long enough to get comfortable and let the infotainement system fully boot up. I'm less than a mile through my neighborhood from getting on the parkway so I just go slow until then.
if it's really cold or icey, I'll remote start before I leave work but it doesn't really warm up the car. It only warms up the engine an you'll start to get cabin heat. But the other parts of the drive trane and fluids are still stone cold. Even the heated seats don't get warm until there are asses on them. So, I still go slow at first.
Mine lives in a very comfy garage. House is on a slight slope so lower level is half basement, half walk out. Garage, which exits from the rear of the house, stays at least in the 50's if not low 60's in the winter. I just start the car and slowly back out of the garage and then leisurely proceed up the drive way to the street. I am at the end of a cul-de-sac and a couple of blocks at 25 MPH before I hit a main street so car has lots of time to warm up. Rarely has this car spent a nigh the cold. On one trip she did have to sit out when it was well below freezing. (I finally learned why people love those heated steering wheels!). Under those conditions I started her up and let her run for a few minutes and then drove her gently for the first five or so minutes to get warmed out before hitting highway speeds.

This is something that happens a lot. My wife's car got mice and they ate through a lot of wiring in the trunk area and caused a mess. What a nightmare. We got rid of that car once we got it straightened out and always keep both cars in the garage all year round now
She stayed in a posh car storage unit in Austin Texas (Petrol Lounge) while I travel 1/2 of 2021. Pampered indoor storage, Filtered AC and trickle chargers. Had great fast company of exotic high brow neighbors.
It would be worth renting a space there just to get to walk around and look at all those neat cars.
Agree. Once your a member, you get to see all the toys. Funny thing, similar to any storage - once out of mind and your vehicle is there…most owners only come once or twice a year to see or get there vehicles. I’d say 90% of them never moved while mine was there for 5 1/2 months.
If you are concerned about your engine and choose to drive easily until the engine is warm, the oil takes about 10-15 minutes longer to reach normal operating temperature than the engine coolant. Under heavy boost, the turbo spins over 100,000 rpm. It is recommended to not use heavy boost (any boost really), until the oil is hot (thin) enough to get into that bearing. That’s about 10 minutes after the coolant reaches normal operating temperature. Even more important to follow with very cold winter mornings.
It's next to impossible to drive out of boost without being an obstruction on the roadway. 0W-20 has no problems flowing in cold temperatures. It's not like we're are using 15W-50. I drive it gingerly when cold but keep up with traffic. I'll opt for the Expressway over the Parkway since I have more room and time to merge and get up to speed if it's an option. As long as you're not going WOT and tearing around while things are coming up to temp, you'll be fine.

What about the oil? I thought that needed to be removed if the car was not going to be started for months.
