Question Walk Away Locking Intermittently working

Is anyone familiar with what causes the Walk Away locking not to work and the car signalling multiple rapid beep alert tones? There is obviously something that it does not like about the way I exit the vehicle or something. It does not happen all the time. And before some of you ask the obvious, YES I have the remote with me.

I’ve learned if you walk away to quickly after shutting the door that is when I consistently get the “rapid beeps” which I believe is the car alerting us that the car is not going to auto lock. For example if you start walking away as you swing the door shut but it is not shut yet. If you wait until the door is fully shut it always auto locks for me. You also have to wait until the rear hatch fully closes if you use the push button to close it. If you walk away while the rear hatch is still closing you will get the “rapid beeps” every time in my experience.

I’ve also noticed that if you wait to hear the “single beep” after closing a door or the rear hatch then when you walk away the auto lock will work.

Make sure you always wait till the rear gate is closed prior to trying to lock the car otherwise the car will not lock if the rear gate isn't fully closed. Someone got into my unlocked car (which I thought was locked since I pressed the lock button and walked away) and stole my tools. The car remains unlocked if you walk away without the rear gate closing all the way. I went into the car to grab a tool and run then after reviewing the CCTV footage, the perp came back nearly 14 hours later to rummage through my car in the middle of the night.

As previously said, best practice is to wait for the single beep by the car then you're ok to walk away.

I never, ever use it. I have another car without walk away, and am sure I would manage to screw it up between the two cars. I use the handle. To me, it is great that the back door handles work as well.

I have this in my MDX and love the feature. I have not fully figured out why it does not always lock, but I know if it beeps once and then a second time it works and you know this as the mirrors fold. But if there is a constant beep it does not lock. Then you have to go back and either touch the door handle button or use your remote. At least it warns you it is not locked.

In my case I parked the car, got out as the lone driver, shut the door and walked away. The car alerted the tones that it did not lock. I then used the fob to lock it while still away from the vehicle (20'). If i'm not mistaken, the locking logic is that
a) all doors are closed while sensor is still detected in proximity of car.
b) sensor leaves proximity of car.
c) whatever is causing the issue
My wife has also expressed failure to unlock from the handle when she leaves work. Her key is in her purse and she carries her purse the same way. It works every morning so far to open the door at home, but not consistently from work. There must be some kind of sensor failure, both times it was raining. I will try and find the reason the next time I drive it but it is my wife's car and I only drive it on weekends. Sadly

It also alerts when you forget to actually turn the engine OFF.

The car is so quiet or had my volume low enough or just wasn’t paying attention that this has happened. Thank goodness for the rapid beeps.

Not so obvious all the time in our (sometimes) extreme state of distraction these days. So, again, thank you, beeps.

Having your cell phone near/next to the key fob can cause interference.
