Sunroof usage

Hello,

Just out of curiosity, how often do you guys/gals use your sunroof? I am finding myself using it all of the time. I didn’t consider it a “must have” when I was looking at vehicles, but I must say, the panoramic sunroof is really nice!

Mine makes loud creaking sounds. And when I say loud, I mean so loud that it startles my passengers and occasionally myself. So, sadly, the shade on mine is almost always closed. This started the day I got the car. Every time I hit a bump, especially when I'm on a hill, it makes a sound loud enough that you'd think it was about to break.

I've been on the transplant list for almost a year. I was lazy but should have been on the list a lot earlier. No ETA. It seems my car is going to get to the end of the lease with a roof that was broken the day I got my car.

And that is only one of FOUR major issues I've experienced...

(In all fairness, my last car was an X3, and it also had pano roof issues the ENTIRE three years I owned it!)

Enjoy your Acura! I hope it goes better than mine.

We've only used ours a few times to ventilate the car when parked in the sun...we just open it an inch or so. We could easily do without it, in fact, I'd prefer not to have it.. It doesn't seem to make any noise, tho...yet. Our last two cars (RDX and CR-V) also had sunroofs that we never really used. Here in the AZ desert we get plenty of sun, no need to let more of it in.

I am guessing you won't be getting another Acura after the current lease is up? I kind of wish I had waited and gone with the new Lexus NX, but I only have 2 more years on my lease.

If by use you mean "get value out of it" then it's an all the time thing - I never have the shade closed as the light coming in is great. My 3 year old loves looking outside to see rain trickle off.

If by use you mean "open it up" then I try to open it up in the city when the weather is nice - it's just nice to get some sun into the car (2 time Miata owner here) but my local weather doesn't always play nice.

Having a pano roof wasn't a must have when I bought but it was a significant consideration when comparing to the CR-V (had it - Canada only feature) and CX-5 (didn't have it).

Rarely use it, if I do it's only to tilt up and vent the cabin when super hot.

Honestly, would prefer if it did not come with a huge glass roof. May be nice to look up and out (not while driving, but the extra heat (with the Sade open) overwhelms the AC in the Texas Summer and fries your head.

use it all the time in Spring and Autumn. Not so much in summer/winter. However I love the light it provides, you dont feel like you're in a box.

FWIW....never use it...either the screen or the glass panel itself opening....ever. I would prefer it not being there....I don't know how often that is an option on a new car vs it's just there.

I used it once just to make sure it worked properly and then closed the shade and forgot it was there.
If Acura offered a sunroof delete option for $1,000 off, I’d take it in a heartbeat.

One time I sat in the backseat and thought, wow, what a view. But I get much less out of it when sitting upfront which is 99.9% of the time.

I will say the back seat experience in the `22 RDX Advance is pretty killer! Huge sunroof, heated stitched-leather seats, USB-C chargers, armrest, headrest, insulated windows etc.

I almost never use it because it makes what is already a noisy ride (I have a 2019 Tech) a lot noisier. Very rarely if the cabin is super hot, I will use the tilt feature without opening the visor to get the cabin to cool down quicker on entry but then shut it once it does cool down. If I could have gotten it without the sunroof, I would have.

I have used mine quite a bit. I would say probably 40% of the time I open the shade and glass. Not for short drives, but its huge and super nice.

The vehicle I bought before this was an X3 M-Sport, I gave it to my wife as she loved it and I (to be blunt) hated it. Horrible on the highway, and its comfortable, but not as comfy as my RDX.

I really only "use" it when the weather and temperature are ideal, like this time of year and in the early Fall. All Winter, the shade is open but the glass stays closed. All Summer, the shade stays closed and the AC is on.

Well I guess our sunroof has received twice as much use as yours. When we took delivery of our car the dealer opened it to show us how it worked. I've opened it once since to show my sister and that's it, I would prefer not to have it either.
I've got 70 years worth of skin damage caused by sun exposure, I don't need to add to it with a sunroof.

I never open mine due to skin cancers as well. I’ve had 40+ MOHS surgeries to remove them and numerous other treatments. I tinted all my windows including the windshield with xpel ceramics tint that significantly cuts down the UV radiation. If you do open yours a lot I suggest lathering up with sunscreen.

Ouch. I've had 1 MOHS (forehead/eyebrow), and that was 1 too many. For those don't know what it is, it is basically your skin doctor finds cancer, refers you to a specialist, and they cut it out with a scalpel, (or something like that). They look at what they cut out in a microscope, and if there is cancer on the edges of that piece of skin, right there they keep cutting out skin until the cancer stops showing up in the scope, and then sew it up. If you have had this happen 40 times.....yikes. That sucks.

My European heritage, red hair, freckles plus the lack or I should say nonexistent sunscreens in the 50's-80's did not help. Add to that growing up around Southern California beaches, I still have not gotten used to having to go for checkups every 6 months and doctor always finds another one or two. Had 4 at once about 8 months ago.....Yeah, it truly sucks.

Right there with you Tec. Same background, etc. Only difference for me, after being born in LA, moved and grew up in South Lake Tahoe...and baking in the sun all day at 6500 ft. altitude is apparently a lot worse for your skin than sea level is. I think my motto after a day at the beach was 'the redder (sunburn---as I don't tan) the better'. That fact that am not covered in cancer is probably a miracle in itself. But....yea, the best of luck and circumstances to you. We had no idea what we were setting ourselves up for back in the day. Anyway....back to 'sunroofs'!

I've had my RDX for about a year and a half. I think I've had the sunroof opened maybe three times. I can take it or leave it. For me, not a must have feature

We get A LOT of sun here in Southern AZ! I like the glass open when it is cloudy, which is rare. My wife loves to have the sunroof glass open, and will do so even if it is 100F outside. SO... We ALWAYS buy cars with an opening roof. Many of the new EVs do not have opening roofs. I think the Kia EV6 has a small opening roof, not a pano, but it's cousin the Hyundai Ioniq5 just has a sealed glass.

Use it maybe twice a year. It's always too cold or too hot or raining.

Wouldn't happen on a 3G.

Use it in the spring and fall and on a warm New England winter day. Never in the summer and never on the highway.

Yet another disappointing feature

Hardly ever use mine since I can never be sure it will close. Sometimes I've had to turn the car off, then restart to get it to work so I've pretty much given up. Also found that when I did open it, I'd almost always have the sun in my eyes and had to wear a hat. I'm with the group that would have gotten the car without it if the was a choice.

We use our panoramic sunroof on our 2019 Acura RDX Tech so infrequently, I sometimes forget it's there.
