For seat heat/ventilation, I leave the driver's seat in Auto and the passenger's seat off all the time. When I get to the car and fully start it up, the driver's seat usually shows one red LED plus the green Auto LED. The passenger's seat usually shows one or two red LEDs and no Auto green LED. If it's been a few minutes, it's also obvious the steering wheel heater was working during the remote start period because it's warm, but when I fully start up, the steering wheel heater is off.

My guess is leaving driver's seat in Auto vs. on/off makes the difference based on my experience and other reports above. Why use anything but Auto settings most of the time?
I recently purchased a 2020 Advance also here in Atlanta-- have not tried to leave it on "auto" for climate control to test the remote start yet (since it's in the garage most of the time overnight). I had a much older car before, so I didn't have a remote start app... I'll have to try out the auto climate/seat settings before the cold weather hits for the afternoons I'm at the office . Thanks for everyone's input on their experiences!

Totally confused

So I am new to Acura having recently purchased a 2020 RDX base. When I remote start with AcuraLink and open the car door, the air is blowing like crazy but the heated seats are not on. As soon as I put my foot on the brake and press the start button, both heated seats go on. I don't understand why its doing this as the passenger heated seat was never on in the first place. Anyone experience this?

If it's cold enough, the heated seats should turn on with remote start, at least as indicated by the red lights. But the seats won't be noticeably warm. Not until there are asses on them for a time. I find that most newer cars work that way. Some cars used to get hotter faster and that may have been a safety issue as well as a practical waste of electrical power, which is more of a premium in modern cars.

I don't recall if the heated steering wheel comes on with remote start. But mine gets warm fast. 30 seconds after I turn it on, it's warm.

thanks for the reply. My question is really about both seat heaters turning on. I guess it’s not a big deal but I always have to turn the passenger side off. Doesn’t make sense

Yes both front seats turn on with remote start. I really don't see the point since they don't get very warm until an ass is in the seat for a few minutes.

They don't go off automatically either. I think they should when you shut off the car, just like the rear defroster. I always check the rear seat heaters whenever somebody rides back there.

No, thanks - that's just an invitation for rattles and damage! The installed price typically runs ~$600-700. Dealer programming is mandatory.

You can buy the kit online for $300 and complete the physical installation yourself in a couple of hours (maybe). You'd still need a dealer to program it, though, which typically costs about $100.

Here are the 12-page instructions.

I found a way to install the receiver by pulling only 1 panel and can be done in 30 minutes

My cooled and heated seats DO turn on when I use the AcuraLink app. I didn’t order the key fob remote start because the fob was ginormous. Yesterday my rear glass shattered I believe from remote starting with the app as well. I think it turned on the rear defroster because it was cold out. There’s a service bulletin for the RDX on the NHTSA site and the 2023 Honda HR-Vs are having this issue as well and it looks like it’s going to be a recall on the HR-V not just a service bulletin.

In practice I've found that the heated seats ONLY turn on with Acuralink if I have them set to auto. If I have them set to any power level they will NOT turn on with Acuralink. I've observed this in my 2022, my wife's 2021, and my old 2019, it makes zero sense to get into a car with cold seats. I honestly don't get the heated seats in this car, they slowly heat less over time so every 20 minutes or so I have to turn them up again, I never had this issue in any other brand car.

The rear window shattering was a known issue on the older models, there is a long post on here about it. Not sure if it's still around, but it happened to my 2019.

What year is your RDX and how many miles?

In Auto mode, the heated seats are an extension of the overall climate control. If the car is still warming and colder then the target temp, the seats heat up to make up the difference. As the cabin temp reaches target, the seat heat reduces. Best thing is to set climate and seats to Auto, and pick a target temp that overall is comfortable, I feel the combination of seat and air calibrate to get a "feel" for that temp as soon as possible and hold the overall "feel" well.
