So I’m in the process of installing a rear dash cam, I previously installed the remote start following the instructions step by step.
Well i I have found a way to install the remote start in about 30 minutes TOPS. There is in fact a safe and easy way to get the top panel off that you need to get access to where the receiver is installed. You can actually peel back the side panels enough to easily remove this panel, and there is just as much room to install the receiver as ripping apart the entire back end.
I think Acura could easily change the instructions and save the dealers hours of time doing the installs. If I were to install it again now I could do it easily in 30 minutes!
i installed my wifes remote start on her 2019 mdx and i literally had it in in 10 minutes outside in the parking lot in the rain. also i used to work for acura yrs back as a tech. these remote starts are 10x easier than the older ones when they came out cause you had to add the wire harness.

if I decide to upgrade the cam then I’ll make a video with tips but so far this one is fine
The entire headliner is held in my magnets and this industrial velcro type stuff, don’t be afraid to pull it down, I ran my wire along the rear wiper washer line that follows the sunroof opening on the passenger side of the vehicle, it really isn’t that bad to do once you learn how things come down, also the rear wiper washer line goes into an opening through the right side rear hatch arm holder thing, zip tieing to this line makes sure you won’t get it pinched. Also when you open the hatch, the middle part that is in the interior at the top of the window is part of the hatch, it is not a panel that you can remove, it is the hatch, but the side panels come off fairly easily

I used your method, so that I could run the dash cam cable, and it was a success. The only issues I had, is that the top cover now shows some scratches from getting it out and I ruined the panel plug that goes on the side of the hinge cover.

Thanks for the tips!! 😁
yea I scratched mine a little too, but oh well, don’t even notice them
At 100 dollars a year it would be at least 5 years to py off the remote starter installation when you could just pay for the app. My 2019 Odyssey has remote starter built in and we have the app. The app works anywhere while the key fob has limited range. Additionally I hated the 2018 key fob as it is a good half inch longer than the Honda one. The Acura key fob is the same as my 2018.
Great video, but what a pain in the ass. Why on Earth would Acura not just run the wires and provide, or at least make it a factory option. I would prefer a fob vs app but maybe times are just a changin'
For those that have the Acura remote start, I have a question.
I added the OEM remote start to our CR-V. After paying to have the fobs programmed I was caught aback by the fact that when you enter the car, the engine shuts off only for the driver to turn it back on seconds later.
Does the Acura remote start work this way as well, or does the engine stay on when unlocking the vehicle?

yea I never understood why they did that on some cars, luckily the Acura stays on, and if you don’t have the keyfob I believe it will turn off when you hit the pedal

For all those interested in doing a DIY install for the OEM remote start, I will be doing it. I ordered the remote starter from a Acura dealer for $280 with shipping and trim removal kit from amazon. I will try to take pictures along the way and the problems I encountered during my installation. I called Curry Acura here in NY and stated that they will program the remote start fob keys for $120. I will post everything here.
Here below is where I ordered the Remote Starter Kit: https://www.factoryacuraparts.com/oe...U9YXV0b21hdGlj

The remote starter package comes with the new FOBs, correct? Then you just have to get the fobs programmed after installing the module?

As @Dereileak posted above, the install doesn't look too bad by loosening the side panels to get access to the roof panel. Someone made a video since then.

I just did this over the weekend using this video as a guide. No interior scratches and nothing damaged in the process.
One question though. I swear at one point while looking through the menus in the infotainment system, I saw a setting for remote start and it had a checkbox that wasn't checked. I went back through the menus tonight and didn't see it anywhere.
Did I dream that? Am I losing my mind? It's in the manual but not in the menu of my car.
Also, anyone know if a Honda dealership can program the remotes since they use the same tools?
I'm due for an oil change soon and will have it done at Acura if I must, but my buddy works at a Honda dealership and it would be free that way. I guess we could try and if it doesn't work, I'll know.
I am shopping for a remote starter for my 2022 rdx tech.
I can find links to the 2019 version, but the keyfob is the older type.
Another for the MDX which is similar to one on ebay for more money. My keyfob looks like the one for the mdx.
There is also another link for less money, which is probably a scam.
The links on this thread seem obsolete.
Where can I find this kit? Trying to find a lower price than my dealer.

In case anyone comes across this, looking for answers.
I never could find anything in the menu of the car for the remote start settings. I might have been thinking of the hands-free hatch, which I disabled because of my hitch.
Also, as of now, Honda cannot program the Acura fobs because they do not use two-way fobs like Acura.
But, I just supplied a case of beer to one of my former co-workers at the Acura dealership and it was done in less than 15 mins.

I think I've researched everything I need to install the remote start module in my 22 RDX.
The missing piece is programming the keyfob.
I suspect having the dealer do it is the most practical option.
I found many videos on YT that show how to do it using somewhat expensive scanners ($450 minimum) , some as low as $200, but require subscription.
Has anyone on this forum tried a scanner?
Any one more economical that works?
What would I use the scanner for, other than keyfobs?
Bumping this oldie to just give thanks to the folks that posted the pics and videos. The "shortcut" route was great, and only took me about 25 mins to install the receiver. Dealer programming was .5 hours of labor. All in with taxes it was about $475 vs roughly double to pay the dealer to do it.
It was about $125 for the half hour of labor, and about $350 for the kit.
Same dealer charges $600 after tax just for the hardware, and I believe 1.5 hours of labor for the install + programming. It was right around a grand all in.
