Parking sensors
Parking sensors
So I purchased a 2020 RDX on Saturday and it lacks parking sensors, I know they are not necessary but I like having them. Due to a dealer mistake, they offered to install them. Looked at the instructions on Acura’s website and seems pretty invasive to have them installed. Has anyone had this done or any advice on having this done?

Well that’s exactly my concern. They need to take a lot of the car apart including the bumpers. Don’t know if it’s worth it. My options are parking sensors or heated steering wheel and led fog lights. Which way to go,,,,,,
I had factory fog lights installed on my Honda CRV when I bought it. I used them maybe twice in the ten years I owned the car.
i didn’t have parking sensors in my CRV, and I’ve appreciated them in my RDX, mostly because the RDX is larger and I am still getting used to the bulk of the car. Will I still rely on them in six months? Maybe not? But it’s a nice safety feature.
Heated wheel; people say it’s nice. I get by with heated seats.
If you’re worried about the the car being put back together after the sensors are installed, I wouldn’t. Just do an inspection and be prepared to tell the dealer if it’s not done to your satisfaction. Threads on this board, especially those talking about aftermarket stereo installations, have shown me that even if it means taking the car apart, it can be put back together if done by a professional. And there should be nobody more professional than your dealer.

They’re all probably fairly equal if you’re thinking about what is invasive. I wouldn’t worry about it, these parts come off easily and are easy to install. I have the parking sensors and appreciated them. I don’t have the heated steering wheel (never had one) but I think that would be my second choice. I like the looks of the fog lights, but the headlights are so good on these cars I don’t know how much of a difference they make. I rarely drive in foggy conditions, so they would be choice 3 for me.
That being said, if you like all 3, why not just ho for it? For the price of the car, these options are a drop in the bucket.

No clue on the install......depending where u live, you may really enjoy the heated steering wheel. I am in MD and I really enjoy it. The question I have about the steering wheel..does it cover the whole steering wheel (I dont have a RDX) I know on some makes..such as Subaru, it was only the top portion that was heated, which was not to my liking......Good luck with ur choice and enjoy the new RDX.....whatever route you go..it will be covered by warranty

Parking sensors are not standard on all rdx? that's weak sauce. It's an invasive install driving holes into your bumpers and neatly running the wires. Best left to someone with experience.
Anyways I can't live without them. I need to be constantly aware within inches where my cars position is at all times.
My power folding mirrors is also blessing as well maneuvering into tight spots in narrow alleys.

As for the power mirrors, not sure why you’re bringing that up. Canadian trolls; I guess you’re not all as nice as everyone says.

Parking sensors are not standard on the base model, but are included in every other trim. I suspect the holes are already drilled and wiring harness is easily connected, even on the base model.

Really? The Advance seats are supposed to be more comfortable, both for the extra adjustments and also the thigh extension. I was actually thinking about looking into swapping my Tech seats for Advance because I'm not super comfortable in my current seats. I've also thought about seeing if the MDX seats would fit, but I think that's a long shot.
So if you have an advance as a loaner, did that help you decide which option you want? One other option to consider is the kick-activated rear hatch. I really wish I had that. But I think when I asked the dealer what it would cost, it was really pricey so I decided against it. I might still look into it though, considering how often I wish I had it.

I tried the fog lights a couple of times and don’t really see a performance value to them.
Yes, they will need to take the bumpers off and drill holes for the parking sensors. But you will have to trust that your dealer has the know how to put it back together as it was never touched. I really like the added security of that feature.
Having the loaner with the parking sensors did help me decide. I like the way they work and after speaking with service this morning, he very much put my mind at ease. Decided against fog lights considering how much I used them on previous cars and also against the steering wheel but I did have him order the lower rear bumper trim. Think it will give it a little something. Not a fan of the front trim.
as far as the seats go completely different feel in my base rdx and on top of that, the loaner had only 399 miles on it and the leather as already bunches up a bit in the middle of the seat. I have always been a big fan of real leather until I bought my first car with the synthetic leather.

Parking sensors can be installed by the owner, but it requires removing the bumpers and drilling perfect holes otherwise there will be issues. I did it on my first RDX but every one after that I just purchased them. I would suggest getting the Acura ones and having it done at the dealer, although you can go to an aftermarket shop and get them.
