Parking Brake Set to Start Engine???

I was just looking through the owner's manual (link posted in this forum) and on page 411 is says "The parking brake must be applied to start the engine." Seems a bit strange to me and I don't recall it being set on any of my test drives. Can any current '19 owners provide some feedback as to whether the manual is correct or in error?

How odd. You certainly don't have to set the parking brake to start the car in normal conditions.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing? The manual does state it's for vehicles sold in the U.S. and Canada. Even if that's the case I would think it would make the distinction.

I will test it tomorrow. I have been setting the parking brake everytime I park, mostly because of habit. I think I am finally over pressing down with my left foot on the pedal that does not exist!

Uh, no. That's another error in the manual.

I haven't been setting the parking brake, and it starts just fine. But you do need to depress the brake pedal.

And if you drive away with the parking brake on, it turns off automatically.

I'm still trying to figure out how to do a "Rockford turn" without a hand-lever for the parking brake. It ain't easy.

Try hitting the brake pedal and the gas pedal at the same time - brake lights come on, front end might drop a bit but the car accelerates.
