New Windshield Options

Hey all, I got a nasty rock chip/spider crack the other week and when Safelite came to fill it, the cracks unfortunately expanded past the point of repair. It was already on the verge of being unfixable so after the rock hit me, I knew a new windshield was in my future.

Does anyone have experience with a windshield from Safelite? Specifically a non-OEM one? Are there any real differences or things I will notice? My $250 deductible covers a third party windshield but not a Honda/Acura OEM.

Thanks,
Tom

I had to get a replacement during covid and the only option was some Chinese nonsense from Safelight. Worst windshield I have had and Farmers doesn't give a crap. It's so bad that it is textured, is about 3-5mm shorter than the stock which made the rubber molding at the top too short, which makes it drip water when I wash it in a different and annoying way. When I complained, literally nobody cared and they basically just told me "too bad". I have since increased my insurance premium to OEM replacement for an extra $12 a month and a $100 windshield replacement deductible.

Had to replace my windshield back in November after a rock kicked up by a dump truck going the other way smashed the right side of the glass. Insurance only covered a non-OEM replacement. I paid the difference for an OEM windshield after hearing the horror stories with third party ones here and in Facebook groups. Ended up being about $300 on my end. They also re-calibrated the sensor while I was there and to be honest, I couldn't tell a difference in alerts. Super happy I went with an OEM piece.

Ok, seems like the consensus is that its on OK for Safelite to do the replacement and calibration, just get the OEM glass. Thanks!
