Unhappy Anyone out there had problems with rocks hitting the windshield?

Hi all, I'm new on the forums. Got a lot of info reading though... great pix of your rides too.

Anyway, I have had my TLS for about 1.5 years and I have 3 stars on my windshield already... I don't know if the front windshield is thin or the rocks in NJ are just harder...

I just got the 3rd and worst one today. Big star (about 6 inches in diameter)

Anyone know the replacement cost of the TLS windshield?

Thanks!

HAHA. I have had 2 w/s and need a third in less than 2 years. I got mine done for 250!!! A place called union auto glass in Wilmington De. best deal around. DO NOT GET HONDA GLASS!! the glass at the dealer was 500.

I also have 2 dents in my car from roadway debris!

I had no problem with rocks successfully hitting my windshield. It got me last November, leaving a half-inch circle on the passenger side of the windshield.
Because the winter and road pebbles from the sanders is going to be here til spring, I bought a crack filler and left it. Now had it been on the DRIVER side, looking at that little circle would be too much of a distraction, but for now I will wait until the windshield deteriorates more from 'sandblasting' before I make a move to repair it...

Good old Jersey roads. In my previous car, I had a stone stuck in a window after it hit it. The guy who did the install for me took a picture. I should have kept the picture, so I could show it to you.

I have a dime sized crack on my windshield and am waiting till the spring is really here before I change it. Fortunately in MA we get one free windshield glass change per year.

I don't think its an Acura windshield issue but more of a winter blues issue. I've had plenty of rocks hit the glass with no damage but I knew it as soon as I heard it that my glass was cracked because the impact was damn loud.

I had a substantial "pebble" hit my w/s ... was small enough that the glass shop could "melt" the glass back to nearly normal... anything bigger than what i had would have needed $500.00 according to them to replace a new winshield...

good point.. stay away from semis.. and those damn trucks that haul excavation rubble... those canvas tops don't do sh@@ for the pebbles that leak through the tailgait and bounce all over the highway...

Check your policy - I have a no deductible glass replacement policy and there's no limit on number of replacements. Good thing too, since my wife went through three windshields in one year on her old car and one already on the Maxima. Plus the one day she took my TL-S to work she managed to get a rock chip in my windshield. Luckily it's not too big and hasn't spread.

I think she tailgates too much.

Found a place that would do it for 350. Will find out how good in a day or two. Hopefully, all will be well... Don't you just hate it when you get things like that...

Thanks all

Yup, that's what happened to me. I heard a thump on my winshield and looked around for any damage, but no noticable damage. The next morning there was a little "star" crack and it didnt seem like anything, but I guess b/c of the warm weather (happened last summer) the crack expanded to a couple of inches.
I reported it to my insurance and they filed a claim. It cost me $250 to replace the winshield thru them, but the retail for the winshield would have been around $900+ :wow: :wow:

Safelite came to my work and replaced my winshield in the parking lot. They were done in about an hour or so.....can beat that for service.

Was driving my friend to the dealership the other day so she could sign some paperwork for her RSX Type S, and I cracked my windshield. Didn't even seei t coming, there was nobody in front of me ... just out of the blue a rock slammed into my windshield. Was really loud, but must have only been a small rock because the crack it left was only maybe 1-2" big ... it went through the glass though (I can feel the crack from the inside).

Now I really wish I had asked my friend to drive to the dealership instead of driving her there! (I'm assuming that random chance wise if she was driving we wouldnt have hit anything ... not saying that I wish her windshield got cracked )

Oh well ... If they can repair it, its free, otherwise I gotta fork over my $250 comprehensive deductible for a new windshield.

I'm curious, the windshield that I would get ... is it exactly the same as the Honda/Acura one, or could it be made by a third party? I notice that the windshield has some dot matrix type stuff on the top, and I wouldn't want that stuff to be lost.

I'm assuming that its there to act as an antenna for radio reception. Perhaps there's a front and a rear one to improve recption.

Talking

I finally had my windshield replaced... $375 (total cost incl. installation) Diamond Auto Glass did a great job and did it in my office parking lot in 45 mins.

They installed glass that was not from Honda but almost exactly like the original. The dot matrix stuff on the top was there including the blue band at the top of the windshield.

I think that area behind the rearview mirror is to keep the glare out when you have the sun shades down and the extenders out. They don't reach all the way behind the mirror.

Cool, glad to hear the new windshield worked out for you. I ended up keeping my windshield and got it repaired. You can still see the crack in the windshield, but its been sanded down and sealed so it won't leak.

The insurance company paid for 100% of the repair too!
