Map Update is "live"

I’ll try that or down load at 6am when I’m in the office. Thanks for the help!

It's unlikely USB port buffering is slowing down your download speed. Even if you have only USB 2.0 ports on your computer, it should be able to accept data at about 50 Mbps. That's a plenty fast downstream.
My cable speeds run around 20 Mbps and it took me about 5 hours over several sessions.

I even get a hundred on my iPad.

The roadblock is probably at the server.

if I read the manual or site correctly we get 5 years free. Here is text I copied from the site if I recall correctly:The RDX's all-new available navigation system offers many improvements, including enhanced graphics, customized vehicle icons, 3D buildings and terrain, turn-by-turn directions displayed in the instrument cluster and more. The system includes free map database updates for up to five years that can be uploaded to the vehicle via the RDX's available 4G LTE in-car Wi-Fi.

Dunno what to suggest, except try a hardwire ethernet connection to your router. Not just for speed, but for less possible interference and data drops. Like everything else with this system, it sounds like the mapdownloader program isn't very robust.
Also, set your computer not to sleep. The princess doesn't like to wake up in the middle of a nap. She gets grumpy.
I don't recall having this problem when I downloaded previous map updates, but I have a 300Mb/sec hardwire connection at my primary computer.

Just checked today. Not sure which order they are loading the VINs in the database. I have one of the first cars from the June 2018 release (very low number) and I get the VIN not in DB message as well. They sure are not loading sequentially.

I am finally upgraded. For those wondering, you can in fact use a microSD card in a USB adapter, but if and only if the adapter does not come up as multiple drives - some adapters appear like a USB hub which as I've learned the car does not like and will not support. I tried a different adapter, an old Targus one I had in my bag and it worked like a charm. I now have new maps and no error about being out of date on maps - at least not yet. Unfortunately I've learned even the new map update is not terribly complete. I live in a newer neighborhood and there are roads that have existed for 1.5 yrs now that still aren't on the map. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This endeavor was, in my professional opinion, a hoot.

I picked up my car in August 2018

That's interesting. It might be doing validation for the map segments as it downloads. If it picks up an error, it will re-download the segment.

was on the phone for about an hour, and they confirmed that from their end they get the same error. They basically blamed it on the web site. They were no help as far as able to get me the maps downloaded. Very poor tech support. I called 1.888.549.3798, Maybe if someone finds a fix, they will share how they got this resolved.

Mark, I also bought one of the first RDX delivered, and my vin number is not recognized either. Tech support is no help. I don't think they know how to enter your vin manually. I hate to have to take it to a dealer, which isn't close by me just to get the map update. Suppose to be free to download.

I successfully (I think) downloaded the map. To install it, does my car have to be in accessory mode or can it be running? It's cold outside and I want to do this tomorrow, but I can't sit in the car for an hour without any heat.

It's encoded to the specific VIN number, so uploading the maps won't do any good, not unless someone has a way to generate the checksums it creates from your VIN.

I don’t think this will work. Each Map download is associated with the individual VIN number thus why you have to enter your VIN.

I had zero issues downloading the update just now. But, I am kind of nervous about actually installing it in the car. Do I have to do it all at once, or will it pick up where I left off if I drive for a bit, turn off the car, drive for a bit, etc.?
#231
Yeah, as mentioned above, the files are protected by JSON Web Signature. I can see where the VIN is embedded, but have no idea how to hack it to work....
#232
It "should" pick up where it left off, if the car is turned off. No guarantees.

I got a tweet back from Customer Relations, and said they were aware that I had been in contact with Here maps and was going to have a regional manager call me within 1 to 2 business days to try and get a resolution to the web site failing to recognize my vin number. Will post more when I get a call back.

This update type needs to be on a CDN (Content Delivery Network) or it will be overloaded way to quickly with bandwidth constraints if housed on a single server somewhere by HERE. That is my guess is they cheaped out on how they are providing the delivery of the update. When using a CDN the update get distributed to many different servers across the Nation (and globe if needed) and then when any given user “request the update” it will grab it from the closet CDN location. This is how the big boys distribute their software to larger audiences that are geographically dispersed (think Apple updates, Netflix, Hulu etc).
It sounds like they really painted themselves into a corner. And us.

Finally some measure of success. I just got off the phone with HERE and I spoke with Lauren. She acknowledged the issue and had me to send her a picture of my VIN and some other info she got over the phone. She said she would send this info to Acura to have them to enter my VIN into the database. Just got the auto response acknowledging they got my email. She said they would call back once it was confirmed my VIN was entered. If anyone is interested in the email here it is. abc-english@here.com and I called 1-888-549-3798. I gave them my name, phone number, make/model/year, and a copy of my insurance card. Hope this help others.
