Homelink problem/question

Hi, I have a 22 RDX and I noticed that the homelink system still has power even when the car is shut off and locked. This is an issue as I park outside my garage and having the system being active all the time, I had to remove it as all it takes is for someone to break into the car and then they can enter my house in the middle of the night. Is there any way to have this system only active/powered when the car is actually running? No car I've ever had with built in openers are powered and active when the car is shut down so not understanding why they would set up their vehicles like that.

Anyone have any suggestions please?

That is definitely an issue these days.

I believe thats how most "home link" car systems work - those buttons are always "hot" when the vehicle is turned off.

The Acura one works similar to my prior vehicles - Lexus, Mini, Infiniti and Genesis - always has power to the unit. You can add a MyQ garage door module (or similar to your current garage door opener - search Amazon for the one that works with your garage door opener - less than $35) - that can be operated from your phone through a secure app - then clearing the Acura Home Link system memory for peace of mind.

I disabled the always hot Homelink when I handed down my 06 TSX to our son for his H.S. car and we parked it in the driveway. I got him a key chain garage door remote on both FOBs and still had the remote keypad outside of the garage door.

Our garage door opener has the ability to lock it so it doesn't respond to remote openers. It's a button on the control unit alongside the big open/close button. We lock it at night when we lock all the other doors before going to bed. Does yours not have that capability?

Yeah, I have the Myq as well but it's just not as convenient as the car button, since my phone is always in my pocket. Just seems so stupid to have that active all the time for simple safety reasons. Was hoping there was a way to get it to power off when the car does.

It does but we have 4 people who are coming and going at different times so doing that locks others out from using their car remotes to be able to get in

theres always a solution, it will just involve some re-wiring on your end to have the homelink system pull power from an ACC source as opposed to a always hot source. Depending on how much you want to get i to it, you may have to sacrifice convenience for safety or vice versa

One issue with re-wiring so that it's powered up only when the car is running might be the volatility of the memory in the Homelink unit. I know it will handle short periods of no power as in when replacing the car battery but might being powered off overnight affect its programming? I don't know if that's truly an issue but perhaps something to consider.
