Fuel Fill Door Open By Itself

2 weeks into my RDX and I have noticed 3 times the fuel fill door opens by itself. The first two times I have actually driven for a while before noticing it.

Last night, I fueled up, made sure I closed the fuel fill door and drove home. This morning, the fuel fill door was open again!

Did I not close it properly? I don't know. Could any wrong press of the remote key open that? Or could my kid brushing the surface of the fuel fill door open it (I don't think that's likely)? Thanks.

Maybe someone in your household push the gas door by accident? or on purpose?

It should lock whenever the doors lock. There's no release for it (like a cable release on other cars). Mine always seems to unlock whenever I get out to gas up but the manual says you have to unlock the doors to unlock the gas door.

This was one of the first things I looked into when I got the car home. I couldn't find a gas door release in the car, so I looked it up. Even though the dealer gave me a full tank, I wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing the first time I went to gas up.

So the fuel fill door always unlock when the driver's door is unlock even if you are not filling up?

Apparently. I don't usually check it but I never leave the car unlocked except in the garage.

When you unlocks the doors the fuel door, hood, and rear hatch will unlock if you have the rear hatch set that way. As for the door opening, you have to physically push on the door after it is unlocked to OPEN IT. To close it just push it closed and it will be flush with the rest of the body panel.

Thanks for the reply. I am guessing I didn't press in the fuel fill door hard enough when closing. I just press it super hard now and see if it solves the problem.

Reminds me of Paranormal Activity

Just don't acknowledge that it can be a ghost, because it'll just make it stronger. It's best to continue the thought that it was an accident on your end.
