Unhappy Fuel fill door not opening...

Hi all,

I went to fill up this afternoon, and my fuel fill door is not opening. The lever isn't locked (ie. valet protected), I tapped the door, pried the door (gently), etc. but it will not release.

Anyone have any tips on how to get this sucker open?

Thanks...

You might try going into the trunk & peeling back the liner to see if you can get to the release cable to the filler door.

put your key in that part where you push to open the gas tank. put your key in it and turn, and see if that works. if not....take it back to dealer. they fix it for free. why trouble yourself?

I hope that never happens to me.
The closest Acura dealer is 63 miles away.

It just might...I put over 2k on it in the first month...

I was able to get it to the dealer this morning and they fixed it in about 10 minutes. They used 2 guys to open the door (one to hold the release lever, the other to pry open the door), then once it was open, they saw the problem right away. On the left side of the door (near the hinge), there is a metal piece that acts like a spring. When the release lever is pushed, the latch releases on the right side of the fuel fill door, and this metal piece pushes the door away from the body of the car. For some reason, the spring had fallen off of its mount point. They put it back on, slathered it with some type of silicone adhesive, and sent me on my way.

Thanks all! Hope this info may someday spare someone from a trip to the dealer. Particularly if it is 63 miles away.

After a year of driving, my fuel fill door now won't open for me. While it is cold outside, there is no exterior ice or snow on the door. I need gas(!), but I can't put open the fuel fill door to access the cap. Has anyone figured out if there is a manual override to open it up?

False alarm, mine turned out to be frozen on the inside of the door after all. I slid a credit card around the perimeter of the door while my wife pushed the release lever, and that did the trick and it opened right up.

This is why my car will never see a day of snow.

My gas door was frozen yesterday!!! What a pain in the ass! My front plate was in the trunk so I used it to get between the door and rear quarter panel and chip the ice away. It was thin enough so I was not touching any metal or paint. After a few minutes, it finally gave in and opened. By that time I was frozen!!!! I hate winter. I hate snow. Still trying to convince the wife to move to a warmer area!!

This is helpful info. It would be nice to see this is a free service, it is now 2011 and I'm driving a 2005, so we'll see what happens.

I looked into the lock that is next to the gas tank/trunk release button and it's only a trunk lock for the valet parking option.

Just to clarify...there are two ways to open the fuel fill door if the release switch doesn't work.

Remove the drivers side front or rear sill plate...but assuming the fault is the cable, this is the low percentage move.

Better choice, open the trunk, take out the panel over the spare, pop the 4 push to lock fasteners on the top of the rear trunk lining and remove it, pop the 4 push to lock fasteners and the two other clips on the truck side lining (and if necessary the optional cargo net mounts) and you can access the backside of the fuel filler door cable connection where it splits from the truck release.

Note, if the cable is jacked, the trunk release may not work...
